The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Multivariate reliability modelling with empirical Bayes inference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Recent developments in technology permit detailed descriptions of system performance to be collected and stored. Consequently, more data are available about the occurrence, or non-occurrence, of events across a range of classes through time.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Root cause analysis

open access: yesPsychiatric Bulletin, 2005
We all look forward to Homicide Inquiries, mandated by the Department of Health Circular HSG(94)27 ([Department of Health, 1994][1]) being replaced or modernised as soon as possible, since there seems to be very little evidence that the enormous costs of these inquiries are justified by the ...

Discharge from critical care into the community for end-of-life care [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This article discusses the considerations and actions taken to facilitate the discharge of a ventilated end-of-life patient called Michael, whose name has been changed for confidentiality, from a critical care unit (CCU) to his expressed preferred place ...

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

VIIRS On-Orbit Optical Anomaly - Investigation, Analysis, Root Cause Determination and Lessons Learned [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A gradual, but persistent, decrease in the optical throughput was detected during the early commissioning phase for the Suomi National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (SNPP) Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Near Infrared (NIR) bands.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Smarter Root Cause Analysis: Enhancing BARO With Outlier Filtering and Ranking Refinement

open access: yesIEEE Access
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is essential for diagnosing failures in modern software systems. BARO, which integrates Multivariate Bayesian Online Change Point Detection with a Robust Scorer, has demonstrated strong performance on RCAEval, a leading RCA ...
