The validity of simulated root canals for the investigation of the prepared root canal shape

International Endodontic Journal, 1985
Summary. Curved root canals from extracted human teeth were prepared using K‐type files. The resultant shapes were compared both quantitatively and qualitatively with canals that were formed in polyester clear casting resin and similarly prepared. Moderately curved canals generally demonstrated a funnel‐shaped canal preparation. Severely curved canals

Contemporary Root Canal Preparation

Dental Clinics of North America, 2017
Root canal preparation must serve the goals of supporting debridement while exerting the least amount of structural damage. Toward those goals, several recent trends for innovation are noted: some changes in instrument design, several of them substantial, whereas others are rather discrete.

File damage during root canal preparation

Journal of Endodontics, 1984
The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of file damage during root canal preparation and to observed any difference in the frequency of damage between United and K-Flex files. Canals of 126 extracted human teeth were prepared with filing motions by 18 sophomore dental students. Eight students used Unitek and 10 used K-Flex files.

A Simple Method for the Analysis of Root Canal Preparation

Journal of Endodontics, 2000
The purpose of this article is to present a simple and easy method for in vitro analysis of root canal instrumentation that permits one to observe and measure the diameter of a root before and after instrumentation, using the teeth themselves as control.

Provisional coronal preparation to root canal therapy

Journal of Endodontics, 1980
Three prosthetic pre-endodontic aids are discussed: a hollow cast gold post core, for maxillary central incisors and canines; a prefabricated steel tube post core, for mandibular incisors and maxillary lateral incisors; and a ring of gold alloy with retention pins, for molars.

EDTA and urea peroxide for root canal preparation

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1969
Early combinations of EDTA and urea peroxide led to discoloration and crystallization. A new formula, using a stable carbowax base can have clinical value in permitting medication to permeate the root structure more completely and destroy remaining microorganisms.

Possibility of root canal preparation by Er:YAG laser

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2009
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cutting efficiency and morphological changes of root dentin irradiated by an Er:YAG laser in vitro.Thirty-two root dentin blocks were divided into 4 groups. The irradiation conditions were as follows: Group 1 (G1): 30 mJ, 10 pps, 1 mm/s, 20 times; Group 2 (G2): 30 mJ, 10 pps, 1 mm/s, 10 times; Group 3 (G3):

The importance of chemomechanical preparation of the root canal

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1955
Abstract 1. 1. The results of a clinical study to determine the importance of thorough cleansing of the root canal are reported. 2. 2. Although I do not wish to leave the impression that medication of the root canal is unimportant, for I do use medicaments (including antibiotics) where indicated, no medication other than irrigating solutions ...

The effect of ultrasonic root canal preparation on inflammatory root resorption

Dental Traumatology, 1986
Abstract In recent years, ultrasonic endodontic instruments have been used for the cleansing and disinfecting of root canals. In the present study, inflammatory root resorption, itself an indication of the presence of bacteria in the dental root, was experimentally induced in monkey teeth. Root canals were subjected to ultrasonic endodontic preparation

A comparison of canal preparations in straight and curved root canals

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971
Abstract Extracted human single-rooted permanent teeth were classified according to degree of root curvature. Following hand instrumentation of the root canals, an examination of cross sections revealed that straight canals were much more readily prepared round than were curved canals.
