[Root canal retreatment or surgical apicoectomy?].
Nederlands tijdschrift voor tandheelkunde, 2005Failure of root canal therapy is usually due to re-infection of the root canal system. In most of these cases, an endodontic retreatment is indicated. Patients with persisting apical periodontitis frequently are referred to an oral surgeon for apical surgery, although endodontic retreatment would have been possible in a majority of these cases.

AbstractAimTo assess the impact of cross‐sectional root canal shape (CSRCS) on the canal volume that can be filled and the root filling material that remains following a subsequent retreatment procedure.MethodologyA total of 15 extracted two‐rooted human maxillary premolars and 15 mandibular first molars were used. Both root canals in the premolars (N =

Periapical Microsurgery: Do Root Canal–retreated Teeth Have More Dentinal Defects?
Journal of Endodontics, 2018This microsurgical clinical study evaluated if teeth that have undergone endodontic retreatment are associated with more dentinal defects than primary root canal-treated teeth. One hundred fifty-five patients who underwent periapical microsurgery treatment in a private practice setting were evaluated.

Efficient and effective root canal retreatment without chloroform.
Journal (Canadian Dental Association), 1990A root canal retreatment technique is described which eliminates the need for chloroform as a gutta percha solvent. This technique utilizes the gutta percha softening actions of both a self-heating instrument and the heat-potentiated solvent action of eucalyptol.

[Method of root canal retreatment using computer simulation].
Stomatologiia, 2015The paper describes a method of root canal retreatment that enables by means of CT data, laser surface scanning of teeth and a number of software to create plastic templates making possible successful retreatment with minimal risk of complications. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated in vitro on 10 extracted teeth.

RETREATMENT OF MAXILLARY SECOND PREMOLAR WITH 4 ROOT CANALS
A 37-year-old male patient reported that he had gone to three dentists who were unable to solve the problem, and was then referred to the specialist. Clinically, the patient presented pain on vertical percussion and palpation. Radiographically, the presence of filling material and anatomy suggesting an extra canal was observed.Rosana Maria Coelho Travassos +11 more

Root canal retreatment: I. Case assessment and treatment planning.
Dental update, 2004Root canal retreatment is often the preferred method of treating a tooth in which root canal treatment has failed. Part one of this two-part article discusses reasons for failure of root canal treatment, case assessment and treatment planning. Part two describes some of the practical techniques that are available to the practitioner and the rationale ...
