Qualitative Cosmetic Evaluation After Root‐Coverage Procedures

Journal of Periodontology, 2009
Background: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the esthetic outcome using four categories of root‐coverage procedures (pedicle soft tissue grafts, non‐submerged grafts, submerged grafts, and envelope techniques) and to identify factors associated with esthetic assessment. Methods: A professional panel of three observers (two periodontists ...

The Semilunar Flap Technique for Root Coverage

Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics, 1999
The semilunar flap technique may be considered as a simple, minimally invasive option for coronally repositioning the receded free gingival margin on the facial aspects of natural teeth and implants. Judicious case selection and careful application of the described procedure may enhance the final esthetic outcome using this approach.

The Deceptive Nature of Root Coverage Results

Journal of Periodontology, 2000
Background: The purposes of this article are to: 1) propose a new method of reporting root coverage data; 2) compare existing root coverage techniques using the proposed data analysis method; and 3) discuss additional refinements to root coverage data analysis. Past studies have equated percent defect coverage with root coverage.

Root coverage: combined surgical procedures.

Compendium of continuing education in dentistry (Jamesburg, N.J. : 1995), 1998
A number of surgical procedures have therapeutic goals to restore the gingival tissue to the level of the cementoenamel junction with attachment of soft tissue to the previously exposed root surfaces. These procedures are indicated where esthetic needs, root sensitivity, or shallow carious lesions involve the root surfaces.

Coronally Advanced Flap Procedure for Root Coverage. Treatment of Root Surface: Root Planing Versus Polishing

Journal of Periodontology, 1999
This clinical study was designed to determine if mechanical instrumentation (root planing) of the exposed root is useful in treating gingival recession caused by traumatic toothbrushing following a coronally advanced flap (CAF). Ten patients with high levels of oral hygiene (full‐mouth plaque score <20%), from 25 to 57 years of age, were selected ...

Root Coverage with the Free Gingival Graft

Journal of Periodontology, 1987
The free soft tissue autograft when used for increasing the amount of attached gingiva is a relatively simple surgical procedure. The use of the free soft tissue autograft for root coverage, however, is a much more technically demanding procedure requiring the periodontist to consider additional factors.

Free autogenous graft coverage of vital retained roots

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1983
The use of free autogenous grafts to the alveolus during root submergence was shown to be a method that might be used to prevent the loss of masticatory mucosa and vestibular depth, which have been regarded as problems associated with the procedure.

Guided Tissue Regeneration‐Based Root Coverage: Meta‐Analysis

Journal of Periodontology, 2003
Background: The goal of guided tissue regenerationbased root coverage (GTRC) is to repair gingival recession via new attachment formation. Numerous clinical trials have been conducted utilizing the concept of GTR to promote root coverage. Most GTRC studies have had relatively small sample sizes and have not utilized power calculations to determine ...

Predictable root recession coverage.

The New York state dental journal, 2006
Gingival recession, exposure of the tooth's root, is undesirable and, in many situations, contrary to normal physiology. Today's root coverage is predictable. With the use of an acellular dermal matrix membrane (Fasciablast), we can achieve a new blood supply and predictable coverage, with no second surgical procedure.

Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft Technique for Root Coverage

Journal of Periodontology, 1985
This article describes the use of the subepithelial connective tissue graft as a donor source for root coverage. The success of these grafts has been attributed to the double‐blood supply at the recipient site from the underlying connective tissue base and the overlying recipient flap.
