Primary root length, number of lateral roots, lateral roots length, root hair length, and root hair density.

open access: yes, 2016
A) Dose-response curves of PRL (primary root length), B) NLR (number of lateral roots), C) LRL (lateral roots length), D) RHL (root hair length), and E) RHD (root hair density) of 250 μM farnesene-treated Arabidopsis seedlings for 14 days.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of root curvature on post length in the restoration of endodontically treated premolars [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
– Two hundred and eighteen bi-rooted maxillary premolars were examined radio graphically to determine the length from the apex at which root curvature occurred. The information may serve as a guide in determining post preparation length.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Genome wide association analysis of root hair traits in rice reveals novel genomic regions controlling epidermal cell differentiation

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2023
Background Genome wide association (GWA) studies demonstrate linkages between genetic variants and traits of interest. Here, we tested associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in rice (Oryza sativa) and two root hair traits, root hair ...

Root developmental responses to heterogeneous water and nitrogen supply [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Better understanding of the interaction between the soil physical properties determining water and nitrate availability and the root proliferation and gene expression components of nutrient acquisition could contribute to food security, but may have been

Towards an empirical relationship between root length density and root number in windbreak-grown cadaghi (Corymbia torelliana) trees

open access: yes, 2011
Because windbreaks are planted for sustainable agriculture but may lower crop yields near them due to competition, suitable competition mitigation methods must be applied at the windbreak-crop interface to increase crop yields.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Optimized Nitrogen Application Increases Soil Water Extraction by Changing in-Season Maize Root Morphology and Distribution in Rainfed Farmland

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
The proper promotion of a deep root system is important for maize cultivation to improve water use efficiency in the arid and semi-arid Loess Plateau.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
