Evaluation of Effect of Carisolv, EDTA-S and EDTA on Periodontally Diseased Root Surfaces: An In-vitro Scanning Electron Microscopic Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2019
Introduction: Periodontal disease results in recession and bone loss which causes morphological changes in the root surface. Traditional treatment like scaling and root planing successfully remove plaque and calculus and necrosed cementum but leaves ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Therapeutic Efficacy of Subgingivally Delivered Doxycycline Hyclate as an Adjunct to Non-surgical Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis

open access: yeseJournal of Oral Maxillofacial Research, 2011
Objectives: Locally used doxycycline has been shown to concentrate in crevicular fluid and demonstrates a wide spectrum of activity against the periodontal pathogens.

Periodontal Dressing as an Adjunct after Scaling and Root Planing--A Useful Preventive Tool?

open access: yes, 2016
PURPOSE To determine the preventive effect of a periodontal dressing containing colophony, zinc oxide and magnesium oxide applied after scaling and root planing on clinical variables, subgingival bacteria and local immune response in patients with ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Polymerase Chain Reaction: A New Era in Detection of Periodontopathogens

open access: yesAdvances in Human Biology, 2015
Aim: Various techniques like cultural methods, Immunofluorescence and ELISA have largely been used for studies of microbial ecology. But nowdays PCR is used as a diagnostic tool that can detect even small numbers of periodontal pathogens with a high ...

The rooted tree embedding problem into points in the plane [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete & Computational Geometry, 1994
Let \(T\) be a rooted tree with \(n\) vertices and \(N\) a set \(\{p_ 1,\dots,p_ n\}\) of \(n\) points in general position in \(\mathbb{R}^ 2\). Denote the sets of vertices and edges of \(T\) by \(V(T)\) and \(E(T)\), respectively. A bijection \(\varphi\) from \(V(T)\) to \(N\) satisfying the conditions: (C1) \(\varphi(r_ 1)=p_ 1\) \((r_ 1\) is the ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...
