Expanding the Root Economics Space With Root Nitrogen Reallocation

Plant, Cell & Environment
ABSTRACTHarnessing root nitrogen reallocation (RNR) to enhance plant productivity commences with positioning RNR in the root economics space, about which we still know little. We conducted an inclusive synthesis linking RNR to root traits, combined with a 2‐year 15N‐labelling field experiment, to position RNR in the root economics space under ...

Space-plant roots gravitate towards water

New Scientist, 2017
The roots of cucumber plants grown on the International Space Station (ISS) show an unusually strong tendency to grow towards water. This finding might help people engineer crops that are more tolerant to droughts on Earth. On Earth, roots often grow downwards under gravity's influence. But on the ISS, Earth's gravitational pull is much less pronounced.

Re-Rooting the Learning Space

2012
This disquisition presents a qualitative study that investigated the complicit nature of theory and practice in mathematics teaching. Situated within an ecological perspective, this research interrogates the role that theory plays as a cognizing domain in which one's pedagogy of teaching mathematics co-exists and co-evolves.

On the square root of minkowski space

Physics Letters A, 1982
Abstract A vector space of eight-dimensional complex spinors ψ is constructed which is in a sense a square root of Minkowski space. The usual position, momentum and angular momentum variables of a particle of non-zero rest mass and arbitrary spin are given as expectation values with respect to ψ of appropriate 8 × 8 matrices.

Optimal root loci of flexible space structures

Proceedings of the 28th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1991
Summary: This note shows that simple generic properties can be proved for the optimal root loci of flexible space structures. These results depend on the fundamental second-order nature of such systems, and give considerably more insigh than is possible a priori for general linear multivariable systems.
