Relationships between the parameters of aboveground parts and the parameters of root plates in Norway spruce with respect to soil drainage

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2010
The aboveground parameters and the parameters of root plates in uprooted Norway spruce trees (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) were measured in the Hnile Blata locality (the High Tatras Mts.) (waterlogged sites) and in the Zemska locality (Low Tatras Mts.) (well-

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Growth Characteristics of Adenophora triphylla var. japonica Hara Seedlings as Affected by Growing Medium

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Adenophora triphylla var. japonica Hara is a highly valued medicinal plant that is used to treat or prevent bronchitis, cough, cancer, and obesity. However, there has been no study on the production of Adenophora triphylla var. japonica Hara seedlings in

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Phenotypic Diversity for Root Traits and Identification of Superior Germplasm for Root Breeding in Watermelon

open access: yesHortScience, 2020
Root traits are an important component for productive plant performance. Roots offer immediate absorptive surfaces for water and nutrient acquisition and are thus critical to crop growth and response to biotic and abiotic stresses. In addition, roots can

Study on the influences of the fractal dimension of the root system and slope degree on the slope stability

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The problem of quantifying the effect of the alfalfa root morphology on the stability of the shallow surface layer of the slope of the Haizhou open-pit coal mine and the optimal slope degree in terms of the reinforcement of the shallow surface layer by ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Root Evaluation of Slope Protection Vegetation Characteristic Indexes on Expansive Soil in Nanning City Based on Entropy Value Method

open access: yesShuitu baochi tongbao, 2022
[Objective] The protective effect of plants on the slope of an expansive soil was evaluated in order to provide a scientific reference for the selection of protective vegetation on the slope of expansive soils. [Methods] Eight common plants were selected

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
