Control of Root Weevils in Strawberry Plantings
Journal of Economic Entomology, 1959Lindane, aldrin, heptachlor, and chlordane were tested for the control of three species of Brachyrhinus strawberry root weevil. Each insecticide was mixed with soil low in organic matter before setting the plants. Each of the first three was applied at the rates of 2½, 5, and 10 pounds actual per acre; the chlordane at 5, 10 and 20 pounds.

The 1st test was treated on 29 Jul and the 2nd test on 12 Aug. Sprays were applied with a hand-held boom using 3 nozzles/row at the rate of 100 gal/acre with 100 psi.

Recent Developments in Strawberry Root Weevil Control
Journal of Economic Entomology, 1927The Strawberry Root Weevil (Brachyrinus ovatus L.) is the most serious pest of strawberries on the Pacific Coast. The history of past efforts to arrive at a satisfactory method of control is reviewed. Previous methods suggested by different workers have been cultural methods, including suitable crop rotation and the use of weevil proof barriers.
