Association of red blood cell transfusions with periventricular leukomalacia in very preterm infants

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Red blood cell (RBC) transfusions have been associated with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and adverse long‐term neurodevelopmental outcomes in very preterm infants. Although lower transfusion thresholds reduce the incidence of ROP, they have not improved neurological outcome. Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is a

Stimuli‐Responsive Poly(Disulfide)s: A Versatile Platform for Intelligent Drug Delivery Systems

open access: yesMedComm – Biomaterials and Applications, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
Ring‐opening polymerization based on dynamic disulfide bond exchange is an important method for synthesizing poly(disulfide)s. These polymers possess stimulus‐responsive mechanisms and show broad prospects in intelligent drug delivery. This review systematically discusses the ring‐opening polymerization strategy and research progress of drug delivery ...

Poly(L‐Lactide‐Co‐ ε ‐Caprolactone)/glass Fiber Composites: Toward Improved Mechanical Properties of Polylactide‐Based Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 9, Page 7812-7825, 10 May 2026.
Enhanced impact strength in PLLA‐based composites via ε‐caprolactone incorporation in the matrix. ABSTRACT Inherent brittleness and limited toughness of polylactide (PLA) restrict its use in high‐performance applications. To overcome these limitations, poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) is often blended with more ductile thermoplastics or chemically modified ...

Long Versus Short Chain Covalent Functionalization in the Preparation of Mechanochromic Polymers

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2026.
A perylene bisimide (PBI) macromechanophore featuring poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) spacers was covalently incorporated into poly(styrene‐ethylene‐butylene‐styrene) (SEBS) and low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE) matrices. Compared to a short‐spacer PBI, the long‐spacer enhanced force transduction while preserving mechanical properties.

A systematic review evaluating the performance of eDNA methods relative to conventional methods for biodiversity monitoring

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
The rapid adoption of environmental DNA (eDNA) methods has drastically changed biodiversity monitoring efforts. It is often claimed that eDNA methods are more sensitive and efficient than conventional biodiversity monitoring methods, but it is often unclear what metrics support this claim.
