Polytropic, differentially rotating cylinders

American Journal of Physics, 1981
Infinite cylinders composed of polytropic material can possess nearly arbitrary rotation fields while retaining the fundamental simplicity of one-dimensional structures. The physical properties of these objects can be easily calculated and understood by junior–senior level physics students even without access to a large computing facility.

MHD mixed convection of nanofluid in a three-dimensional vented cavity with surface corrugation and inner rotating cylinder

International journal of numerical methods for heat & fluid flow, 2019
Purpose This study aims to numerically examine mixed convection of CuO-water nanofluid in a three-dimensional (3D) vented cavity with inlet and outlet ports under the influence of an inner rotating circular cylinder, homogeneous magnetic field and ...

Relativistically rotating dust cylinders

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1977
A previously derived method for obtaining the general differentially rotating dust metric is applied to the cylindrically symmetric case. The dust metric, the exterior vacuum metric, the matching conditions at the boundary, and the asymptotic behavior at infinity are worked out explicitly.

Conjugate mixed convection of nanofluid in a cubic enclosure separated with a conductive plate and having an inner rotating cylinder

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2019
In this study, convective heat transfer features of CNT-water nanofluid in a three dimensional cubic enclosure which is separated by a conductive partition and having an inner rotating adiabatic circular cylinder were examined. Numerical simulations were

Hydrothermal index and entropy generation of a heated cylinder placed between two oppositely rotating cylinders in a vented cavity

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2021
In this work, hydrothermal behavior and entropy generation of a heated cylinder placed between two oppositely rotating cylinders inside a vented cavity is studied numerically using the finite volume technique.

Natural convection heat transfer in a power-law fluid from a heated rotating cylinder in a square duct

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2019
Laminar natural convection heat transfer in a power-law fluid from an isothermal rotating cylinder placed coaxially in a square duct has been studied numerically over the following ranges of conditions: Grashof number ( 10 ⩽ Gr ⩽ 10 3 ) ; Prandtl number (

Analysis and predictive modeling of nanofluid-jet impingement cooling of an isothermal surface under the influence of a rotating cylinder

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018
In this paper, numerical study and thermal prediction for a nanofluid jet impingement cooling of an isothermal hot surface with an adiabatic rotating cylinder were performed. Finite volume method was used for the solution of resulting governing equations

Rotating Convection in a Finite Cylinder

Applied Scientific Research, 1993
When a rotating circular cylinder containing fluid is heated from below, it is observed that azimuthally travelling waves may appear in the fluid. A linear stability model is described whose numerical solutions agree well with experimental observations.

Viscoelastic shear flow past an infinitely long and freely rotating cylinder

The Physics of Fluids, 2018
We study analytically the effect of steady shear flow on an infinitely long and freely rotating circular cylinder using asymptotic methods. The ambient fluid is assumed viscoelastic and modeled with the Oldroyd-B constitutive equation under isothermal ...
