Multiplicity for idealized rotational detonation waves

Physics of Fluids, 2021
Simulations of three-dimensional rotational detonation waves are conducted to understand the mechanisms of wave bifurcation. A compressible reacting Euler solver is developed within the framework of OpenFOAM, and a fixed mass flux boundary condition is developed to avoid complex injector dynamics. Influences of inflow mass flow rates and initiations of

Instabilities of Rotating Detonation

2019
In order to investigate the combustion phenomena of rotating detonation of H2/air, ground experiments under different airflow rates at equivalence ratio of 1.0 are operated in an annular rotating detonation combustor (RDC), which uses the non-premixed mixture injection scheme. The airflow rates vary from 75 to 225 g/s.

Effects of detonation wave direction and moment of inertia on the performance and flow structures of a disk rotating detonation combustor

The Physics of Fluids
This study presents a systematic investigation of turbine-coupled disk rotating detonation combustor (RDC) dynamics, establishing novel relationships between detonation wave direction, turbine inertia, and flow field characteristics.

Rotating Detonation Wave in an Annular Gap

Proceedings of the Steklov Institute of Mathematics, 2018
The authors consider the three-dimensional Euler equations of an ideal multicomponent reacting mixture that describe combustion of an air-fuel mixture in an annular gap. The system is studied numerically, using high-performance computers. Air is considered as an oxygen-nitrogen mixture, the fuel is gaseous.

Heat transfer characteristics of H2/air rotating detonation combustor

The Physics of Fluids
The heat release process in a rotating detonation combustor (RDC) exhibits highly transient characteristics, posing significant demands on the thermal protection and management of the rotating detonation engine (RDE). In this work, the wall heat transfer

Detonation Wave Propagation in Rotational Gas Flows

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2004
This paper studies the propagation of detonation and shock waves in vortex gas flows, in which the initial pressure, density, and velocity are functions of the distance from the symmetry axis. Rotational axisymmetric flows having a transverse velocity component in addition to nonuniform longitudinal velocity are considered.
