Plant Robotics for Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Robots: Insights from Actuation Characteristics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plants are promising materials for building sustainable and eco‐friendly robots due to their inherent multifunctionality, with actuation playing a crucial role. This article focuses on the physical movements of plants and, from the perspective of actuation characteristics, explores representative plant species and their behaviors, the current state of ...

Pulse detonation assembly and hybrid engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A pulse detonation (PD) assembly includes a number of PD chambers adapted to expel respective detonation product streams and a number of barriers disposed between respective pairs of PD chambers. The barriers define, at least in part, a number of sectors

An Advanced High‐Performance Ultrafast Ammonium‐Ion Aqueous Battery Based on Dual‐Metal Redox Open Framework Molecular Magnet

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Prussian Blue Analogue molecular magnet KMnFeHCF is demonstrated as a high‐performance cathode for ultra‐fast aqueous ammonium‐ion batteries. A full cell using KMnFeHCF and graphite delivers ~71 mAh g−1 at 1.25 A g−1 and ~51 mAh g−1 at 2.2 A g−1, retaining 50% capacity after 1850 cycles. Its scalability, cycling stability, and low cost offer strong

Stretchable Curvature Sensors for Motion Capture with Bending‐Stretching Coupling Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stretchable curvature sensors based on a wavy symmetric stacked‐layer structure (WSSLS) enable decoupled bending‐stretching detection with high linearity, repeatability, and durability. Integrated into smart gloves, the sensors achieved precise motion capture and human‐robot interaction, with slip‐simulation tests demonstrating a remarkable 93.6 ...

Compressible flow structures interaction with a two-dimensional ejector: a cold-flow study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An experimental study has been conducted to examine the interaction of compressible flow structures such as shocks and vortices with a two-dimensional ejector geometry using a shock-tube facility. Three diaphragm pressure ratios ofP4 =P1 = 4, 8, and 12

Reaction Mechanism, Challenges, and Strategies of High‐Energy‐Density Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Focusing on high‐energy‐density sodium‐ion batteries, this review highlights the advantages offered by conversion‐type cathode materials. The currently studied cathode materials are systematically introduced. By analyzing sulfur, oxygen, and transition metal halides and other conversion‐type cathodes, the key challenges associated with these cathodes ...

High-resolution numerical simulation of rotating detonation waves with parallel adaptive mesh refinement

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Simulations of rotating detonation engines are still dominated by solvers on uniform or statically refined meshes. Here, simulations of premixed rotating detonation waves are conducted using the block-structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) technique.

FBOTs and AT2018cow following electron-capture collapse of merged white dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We suggest that fast-rising blue optical transients (FBOTs) and the brightest event of the class AT2018cow result from an electron-capture collapse to a \NS\ following a merger of a massive ONeMg white dwarf (WD) with another WD.
