BYCFoam: An Improved Solver for Rotating Detonation Engines Based on OpenFOAM
A rotating detonation engine (RDE) is a highly promising detonation-based propulsion system and has been widely researched in recent decades. In this study, BYCFoam, the latest gaseous version of the BYRFoam family, is developed specifically for RDE ...

The Origins of Ploem's Filter Cube: A Pandora's Box
Abstract Ploem's filter cube, central to modern epifluorescence microscopy, integrates three matched optical components: an excitation filter, an emission filter, and a dichroic mirror. Together, these elements enable the separation of excitation and emission light paths, producing high‐contrast fluorescence images.

AbstractThis paper presented a three-dimensional numerical study of rotating detonation engines, exploring the effect of the inlet total pressure and the number of detonation waves on the performance of rotating detonation engines. It was found that under the same total pressure of the inlet fuel, the number of detonation waves had little influence on ...

Bolide Light Curve Systematics from 75 Recovered Meteorites
Abstract How does the energy deposition profile (light curve), deceleration, and penetration depth in Earth's atmosphere depend on asteroid composition and meteorite type? Here, we present the light curve and velocity profile of 75 bolides from camera‐documented meteorite falls.

Abstract We report the discovery of the second (Al,Cu)‐alloy–bearing micrometeorite, FB‐A2, recovered from Mount Gariglione (southern Italy), representing the sixth such occurrence worldwide. Although chondritic in nature, FB‐A2 differs markedly from previously described microspherules.

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...
