Free vibration analysis of a rotating graphene nanoplatelet reinforced pre-twist blade-disk assembly with a setting angle

open access: yes, 2021
This paper investigates the coupled modeling method and free vibration characteristics of a graphene nanoplatelet (GPL) reinforced blade-disk rotor system in which the blade has a pre-twist angle and setting angle. Based on the Kirchhoff plate theory and

Thermal Buoyancy Effects in Rotating Non-Isothermal Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2001
The present paper is concerned with the non-isothermal flow mechanisms in rotating systems with emphasis on the rotation-induced thermal buoyancy effects stemming from the coexistence of rotational body forces and the nonuniformity of the fluid ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Vibration Reduction on Circular Disks with Vibroacoustic Metamaterials

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Vibroacoustic metamaterials represent an innovative technology developed for broadband vibration reduction. They consist of an array of local resonators and are able to reduce vibrations over a wide frequency range, commonly referred to as a stop band ...

A Numerical Simulation for Darcy-Forchheimer Flow of Nanofluid by a Rotating Disk With Partial Slip Effects

open access: yesFrontiers of Physics, 2020
This study examines Darcy-Forchheimer 3D nanoliquid flow caused by a rotating disk with heat generation/absorption. The impacts of Brownian motion and thermophoretic are considered.

Turbulent flow on a planar moving belt and a rotating disk: modelling and comparisons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Modelling of the fully turbulent flow produced on a moving belt and of that induced on a rotating disk is described, for each of which a more analytical approach is adopted than previously seen.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Topology optimization of disk–shaft rotating body under thermomechanical coupling

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Turbine rotors often operate under harsh conditions, such as high rotational speeds and large temperature gradients, that requires them to withstand complex thermal and centrifugal loads.

Clearance flow patterns and pressure distribution of a pump-turbine: Measurement and simulation of a rotating disk flow

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
The clearance flow patterns and pressure distribution determine the clearance axial hydraulic thrust of a pump turbine, which has a substantial impact on the unit axial imbalance.
