On eddy currents in a rotating disk [PDF]

open access: yesElectrical Engineering, 1942
A DEVICE which often occurs in electric machines and instruments consists of a relatively thin conducting disk rotating between the pole pieces of a permanent magnet or electromagnet. The author has received inquiries as to the method of calculating the paths of the eddy currents and the torque in such cases.

A forced convection of water-aluminum oxide nanofluids in a square cavity containing a circular rotating disk of unit speed with high Reynolds number: A Comsol Multiphysics study

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2022
This research article concentrates on forced convection with a high Reynolds number of the water-alumina-based nanofluid in the square cavity containing a rotating disk with a unit speed. A very dense mesh is used to obtain the numerical results with the

Comprehensive evaluations of heat transfer performance with conjugate heat dissipation effect in high-speed rotating free-disk modeling of aero-engines

open access: yesFundamental Research
Thermal boundary conditions of the turbine disk cavity system are of great importance in the design of secondary air systems in aero-engines. This study aims to investigate the complex heat transfer mechanisms of a rotating turbine disk under high-speed ...

Investigation of thermo-elastic characteristics in functionally graded rotating disk using finite element method

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering, 2021
In this research paper, displacement, stresses and strains are presented for rotating FGM disk with variable thickness by using finite element method (FEM). Thermo-elastic material properties and thickness of FGM disk continuously vary as exponential and

Numerical Study for Darcy–Forchheimer Flow of Nanofluid due to a Rotating Disk with Binary Chemical Reaction and Arrhenius Activation Energy

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
The present article investigates Darcy−Forchheimer 3D nanoliquid flow because of a rotating disk with Arrhenius activation energy. Flow is created by rotating disk. Impacts of thermophoresis and Brownian dispersion are accounted for.

Thermal Buoyancy Effects in Rotating Non-Isothermal Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2001
The present paper is concerned with the non-isothermal flow mechanisms in rotating systems with emphasis on the rotation-induced thermal buoyancy effects stemming from the coexistence of rotational body forces and the nonuniformity of the fluid ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Vibration Reduction on Circular Disks with Vibroacoustic Metamaterials

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Vibroacoustic metamaterials represent an innovative technology developed for broadband vibration reduction. They consist of an array of local resonators and are able to reduce vibrations over a wide frequency range, commonly referred to as a stop band ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
