Study on titanium fire suppression technology for aero-engine uncontained failures

open access: yesScientific Reports
In aero-engine containment tests, titanium alloy blades exploding and flying off generate a large amount of titanium fire, affecting the capture and recording of the blade flyoff process.

Adaptive Multiscale Symbolic-Dynamics Entropy for Condition Monitoring of Rotating Machinery

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Vibration data from rotating machinery working in different conditions display different properties in spatial and temporal scales. As a result, insights into spatial- and temporal-scale structures of vibration data of rotating machinery are fundamental ...

Self-tuning routine alarm analysis of vibration signals in steam turbine generators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents a self-tuning framework for knowledge-based diagnosis of routine alarms in steam turbine generators. The techniques provide a novel basis for initialising and updating time series feature extraction parameters used in the automated ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Precision optical angular position marker system for rotating machinery [PDF]

open access: yes
An optical system is described which generates one or more markers of the angular shaft position of rotating machinery. The system consists of a light source, an optical cable, a machinery mounted lens assembly, a light detector, and a signal conditioner.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Why have hydrostatic bearings been avoided as a stabilizing element for rotating machines [PDF]

open access: yes
The advantages are discussed of hydrostatic, high pressure bearings as providers of higher margin of stability to the rotor/bearing systems. It is apparent that deliberate use of hydrostatic bearing high pressure lubricated (any gas or liquid) can easily

Improved design of item in high speed rotating machinery [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Greater centrifugal radial growth of the preimpeller hub with respect to the impeller and nut at operating speed alleviates clamping and alignment problems in high speed rotating machinery.
