Shroud Cooling with Blade Rotation Using Discrete Holes and an Upstream Slot

Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2016
Shroud film cooling above the blade row in a low-speed rotating turbine facility is investigated with coolant injected through an upstream slot in combination with injection through angled discrete holes on the shroud. Measurements of the film-cooling effectiveness are performed with coolant injection from the slot alone, from discrete-shroud holes ...

Experiments on a shrouded, parallel disk system with rotation and coolant throughflow

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1973
Abstract The heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of a cylindrical enclosure having both rotating and stationary walls have been investigated in the presence of coolant throughflow. The research was motivated by cooling applications in cavities and enclosures which may be situated adjacent to the rotating shaft in gas turbines, compressors ...

Finite element analysis of rotating flow in a skewed shrouded rotor geometry

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1982
AbstractThe effect of slight shroud skewness on rotating flow in an enclosed rotor geometry is modelled as a perturbation about axisymmetric flow. Solutions are obtained by the finite element method. Mixed and penalty finite element formulation are employed.

Visualization of dominant vortices between co-rotating disks in shroud without obstruction

APMRC 2004 Asia-Pacific Magnetic Recording Conference, 2004., 2005
Laser sheet and digital camera was used for 2-dimensional visualization of the unsteady flow between co-rotating disks in air with a cylindrical enclosure. Geometric parameters are gap height between disks, and gap distance between disk tip and shroud. The lobe-structured boundary between inner region and outer region was detected by inserted particles,

Experimental identification of rotating instability of an axial fan with shrouded rotor

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2015
The rotating instability phenomenon is investigated experimentally on a laboratory low-speed axial fan. Unsteady pressure measurements are performed close to the rotor leading edge, in the far-field in the upstream-duct section, and within the rotating frame by using Kulite sensors near the blade tip.

Secondary Flow Oscillation in Outer Region of Unobstructed Co-rotating Disks in Shroud

Asia-Pacific Magnetic Recording Conference 2006, 2006
In this study, we have tried LES model for inner-disk flowfield to investigate the flow disturbance and the flow structure driven by the co-rotating disks without any obstruction. The boundary pattern between inner region and outer region obtained lobe-shape structure clearly and its number has been validated on experimental data by our previous study.

Heat Transfer From a Shrouded Rotating Disk to a Single Fluid Stream

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1965
This paper presents the initial results of a model study to determine the heat-transfer characteristics of radial-flow gas turbines. A test facility was constructed and several unconventional experimental techniques were developed for use in the facility.

Shroud heat transfer measurements inside a heated multiple rotating cavity with axial throughflow

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2007
Abstract Experimental measurements of heat transfer are made from the inner peripheral surface of a rotating test rig designed to be similar to a gas turbine high pressure compressor internal air system. The test rig comprises a number of annular discs sealed at their periphery by a shroud.

Non-contact measurement of stationary characteristics of shrouded steam turbine blades under rotation

2015 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings, 2015
The paper deals with new non-contact measurement methods of stationary deflections of steam turbines blades under rotation. These methods are based on the properties of highly sensitive and accurate magnetoresistive sensors developed by the authors. Biaxial sensors enable measurements not only in the circumferential, but also in the axial direction ...

Control of tip-vortex noise of axial flow fans by rotating shrouds

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1978
Noise and performance tests were conducted on a low tip speed, half-stage, axial flow fan such as is used in automotive applications. The purpose of the tests was to determine the characteristics, relative importance, and the methods of control of the tip clearance noise of the fan.
