Numerical Simulation of Rotating Stall in a Subsonic Compressor
40th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 2004Abstract Rotating stall is generally the first instability met in multi-stages compressors, before surge. This 3D phenomenon is characterized by one or more cells of stalled flow which rotate at a fraction of the rotor speed ω . The present paper deals with the simulation and the analysis of the rotating stall in a stage of a subsonic compressor ...

Investigation of the Rotating Stall in a Centrifugal Compressor
Volume 1: Fora, Parts A and B, 2002Instability of the compressor operation is manifested in two forms: by mild or deep surge. Both of them should be avoided as they lead to reduced performance or serious damage to the machine and its driving system. One of the pre-surge symptoms is rotating stall that appears mainly in the impeller and transfers to other parts of the compressor.

Rotating stall in axial compressors
Zeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik ZAMP, 1955The phenomenon known as ‘rotating stall’ is described. Basically, it involves a nonuniform pattern of flow, steadily rotating relative to both the fixed and the rotating blades of axial-flow compressors. Attempts to analyze the phenomenon by means of small-perturbation theories are reviewed.

Experimental Study of Rotational Effect on Stalling
Chinese Physics Letters, 2013Tomographic particle image velocimetry (TPIV) and static pressure measurements are performed in a wind tunnel on a scaled model of the rotor blade of a 5 kW horizontal-axis wind turbine designed by using the blade element momentum method. This study is to investigate the physics of the stall-delay phenomenon observed for a rotating blade.

Delayed Stall Modeling of the Rotating Blades
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010Most aerodynamic design tools for horizontal‐axial wind turbines are based on the blade‐element momentum theory (BEM). Due to the nature of this theory, the design tools need 2‐D steady sectional lift and drag curves as an input. In practice, flow over a wind turbine rotor blade is neither two‐dimensional nor steady, and is affected by rotation ...

Physical mechanism of rotational stall for HAWTs
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012Although most blade element momentum (BEM) models yields acceptable results for high tip-speed ratios where the local angles of attack are small, no generally accepted model exists up to date that consistently predicts the loads and power in stall regime for stall-controlled turbines. Understanding of the stall delay phenomenon on wind turbines remains,

Simulation of rotating stall by the vortex method
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1985The vortex method, coupled to a boundary-layer solver, is applied to the numerical simulation of high Reynolds number incompressible flow in two-dimensional cascades. Periodic conditions are imposed along the plane of the cascade, with several blades per period. Good agreement is found with two finite-difference methods for a single-blade case.

Experimental Investigations of the Onset of Rotating Stall
Volume 1: Symposia, Parts A and B, 2008This work focuses on analysis of data obtained in experimental investigations of a military fan in a whole-engine test facility. The data was simultaneously obtained by using multiple pressure sensors located at different axial and angular positions in the fan.

Abstract The relationship between the growth of the stall cell and variation in the surge behavior was experimentally investigated. The aim of this study was to reveal the effect of the stall cell on the surge behavior from the viewpoint of the inner flow structure.
