This paper shows how to find minimum-variance estimates of the mean $\alpha(t_i)$ of a time-dependent population, assuming that one is restricted to the class of linear unbiased estimates. Each minimum-variance estimate is based on a specified sample pattern (a set of sample values drawn from the population at one or more distinct times).

SUMMARY Suppose that a polynomial of order d is to be fitted to data from a designed experiment and that V(·) is any selected variance function. For example, if ŷ(x) is the fitted value at a location x = (x 1, x 2, …, xk)′ in the k-dimensional predictor space, V{ŷ(x)}, which we shall also write V(ŷ), denotes the usual variance function.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Rotation, combined structure, semi cylindrical weir- gate, energy loss, discharge coefficient. [PDF]
The combined weir- gate is a structure which may replace weir and gate in channels. The semi cylindrical weir- gate has a higher discharge coefficient in comparison with the sharp crested weir- gate because of the curvature on the weir section which the ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Robustness of Identifying Item–Trait Relationships Under Non-Normality in MIRT Models
Identifying item–trait relationships is a core task in multidimensional item response theory (MIRT). Common empirical approaches include exploratory item factor analysis (EIFA) with rotations, the expectation maximization-based L1 regularization (EML1 ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.
