Rotation and Accretion Powered Pulsars

Classical and Quantum Gravity, 2008
Pulsar astrophysics has come a long way in the 40 years since the discovery of the first pulsar by Bell and Hewish. From humble beginnings as bits of 'scruff' on the Cambridge University group's chart recorder paper, the field of pulsars has blossomed into a major area of mainstream astrophysics, with an unparalleled diversity of astrophysical ...

High-Energy Emission From Rotation-Powered Pulsars

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
Forty years after the discovery of rotation‐powered pulsars, we still do not understand many aspects of their pulsed emission. In the last few years there have been some fundamental developments in acceleration and emission models. I will review both the basic physics of the models as well as the latest developments in understanding the high‐energy ...

X-Ray Emission from Rotation-Powered Pulsars

Chinese Physics Letters, 2005
We study the properties of pulsed component of hard (2–10 keV) x-ray emission from pulsars based on the new version of outer gap model we proposed previously [Astrophys. J. 604 (2004) 317]. On the frame of this outer gap model, we derive an expression of non-thermal pulsed x-ray luminosity of rotation-powered pulsars, and then apply it to the pulsars ...

Luminosity Evolution of Rotation-Powered, High-Energy Pulsars

Proceedings of the 12th Asia Pacific Physics Conference (APPC12), 2014
We investigate the pulsar outer-magnetospheric particle accelerator and derive how the trans-magnetic-field thickness of the accelerator evolves with the pulsar age. We find that the thickness is small but increases steadily if the neutron-star envelope is contaminated by sufficient light elements.

Rotation Powered Pulsars as Sources of High-Energy Particles

2007
Highly magnetised rapidly spinning neutron stars are widely considered to be natural sites for acceleration of charged particles. A powerful acceleration mechanism due to unipolar induction is thought to operate in the magnetospheres of isolated neutron stars, bringing the particles to ultrarelativistic energies at the expense of the neutron star ...
