Phosphor-based thermometry of rotating surfaces
Applied Optics, 1987The use of phosphor thermometry in generator rotor temperature monitoring over the 60-150 degrees C range has been investigated, using measurements of the decay time of the visible emission stimulated in europiumdoped yttrium oxysulfide by UV laser excitation.

On Generalized Affine Rotation Surfaces
Results in Mathematics, 1995The concept of affine rotation surface is generalized so as to include one additional class of surfaces, which are called improper affine rotation surfaces. Affine tensors and invariants are calculated for these generalized affine rotation surfaces (GARS). It is shown that, with two exceptions, all affine unimodular homogeneous surfaces are GARS.

Further, we obtain some curvature properties of these surfaces. We also introduce some kind of generalized rotational surfaces in E4 with the choice of meridian curve. Finally, we give some examples.

These are periodic, two-dimensional waves over a flat bottom and the surface profiles are symmetric and monotone between crest and trough. The proofs rely on bifurcation theory.

Rotation and translation invariant 3D descriptor for surfaces
2015 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2015We present a descriptor estimator for surface-based 3D input data for coarse localization of mobile robots. From the input pointclouds surfaces are reconstructed and simplified to detect stable keypoints which are used to evaluate rotation and translation invariant features.

Stretching a surface in a rotating fluid
ZAMP Zeitschrift f�r angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1988A surface is stretched in a rotating fluid. The solution to the governing set of nonlinear differential equations depends on a parameter \(\lambda\) which is the ratio of the rotation rate to the stretching rate. Perturbation solutions for small and large \(\lambda\) compare well with exact numerical integration.
