Research on Beam Widening of Rotman Lens

2020 IEEE 5th International Conference on Integrated Circuits and Microsystems (ICICM), 2020
In this paper, the ubiquitous muti-beam beamwidth of the Rotman lens is tentative studied using widening technique. Phase weighted beam synthesis is adopted, and matched cables are connected between ports of the lens array and antennas. The measured widening pattern and un-widening pattern are compared, which demonstrates that the beam of the Rotman ...

Improved Phase Performance for Rotman Lens

International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering, 2013
Rotman lenses are used to obtain multiple beams from a single array. Although the beams produced by the feed antennas at focal points have no path length errors, the beams produced by feed antennas at off focal points may have large path length errors. These path length errors cause deterioration in the multiple beams.

A compact microstrip Rotman lens design

2017 United States National Committee of URSI National Radio Science Meeting (USNC-URSI NRSM), 2017
Rotman lenses have long served as analog beam forming networks (BFNs) to support linear scanning arrays. However, most lens designs have large electrical size which limits their uses in compact transceiver systems. In this paper, we aim to design a compact lens structure by folding the lens into two layers, and using coupling slots as transition.

Strict electrodynamic simulation of Rotman lens

12th International Conference Microwave and Telecommunication Technology, 2003
The authors consider the application of a flat multibeam Rotman lens in feed systems of array antennas. Satisfactory results are obtained by strict electrodynamic modeling of the elementary case of similar devices that allows optimistic forecasts on the improvement of radio engineering characteristics of the proposed device.

Imaging capability of a Rotman lens antenna

2014 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium (APSURSI), 2014
This paper presents a new analysis of a Rotman lens as an imaging processor. The modulation transfer function (MTF) has been calculated with the variation in the beam port spacing. The cutoff frequency is equal to the array size in λ. The beam port spacing should be narrow enough to avoid the aliasing.

Real-world rotman lens prototyping and analysis

2008 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2008
In this paper, tools to semi-automate and speed up the Rotman lens design process are suggested, allowing researchers to rapidly iterate designs or produce studies that span multiple design parameters. As guidance for the analysis of these lenses, methods for measuring or simulating insertion loss and beam efficiency of the entire lens are described ...

Design of a PZT-based MEMS Rotman lens

2008 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2008
The design of a MEMS Rotman lens that uses a high dielectric constant PZT (Lead Zirconium Titanate) thick film to fill the lens cavity has been presented. The 56 mum thick Rotman lens has a footprint area of 5.5x7.1 mm2, incorporates 3 beam ports, 5 array ports, and operates at 77 GHz.

Design of a rotman lens based on genetic algorithm

2017 Sixth Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation (APCAP), 2017
A Rotman lens is designed in this paper. The shape of the lens body and the ports location is designed based on the Genetic Algorithm. By using the Genetic Algorithm, the Rotman lens has a good performance on the insertion loss and the phase error.

Flat Rotman lens for 5G beamforming antenna

2016 IEEE 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation (APCAP), 2016
In this paper, a planar Rotman lens featured as beamforming and multiple beams is presented, aimed at the potential use for 5G communication. The feeding network and the radiating patches are made as a single layer Taconic-microstrip structure for a 24-GHz area operation for low cost and practicality. The beamforming characteristics are verified by the

Asymmetric Ground Rotman Lens for Multilayer Packages

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2014
An asymmetric ground Rotman lens is presented in this letter. A new design of a Rotman lens is proposed to accommodate a whole beamforming system by providing separate ground layers for antennas and circuits. The lens has three dielectric layers and four metallic layers.
