An unconditionally stable Runge-Kutta method for unsteady rotor-stator interaction [PDF]

open access: yes
A quasi-three-dimensional analysis has been developed for unsteady rotor-stator interaction in turbomachinery. The analysis solves the unsteady Euler or thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations in a body-fitted coordinate system. It accounts for the effects of

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

Fluid Interaction Analysis for Rotor-Stator Contact in Response to Fluid Motion and Viscosity Effect

open access: yesApplied Mechanics
Fluid–structure interaction introduces critical failure modes due to varying stiffness and changing contact states in rotor-stator systems. This is further aggravated by stress fluctuations due to shaft impact with a fixed stator when the shaft rotates ...

Fault detection based on instantaneous angular speed measurement and variational mode decomposition

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Rotating machinery encounter throughout their lifetime various problems. Among them, a rotor-stator rubbing problem is one of the most common. This paper proposes a procedure, which applies the instantaneous angular speed (IAS) measurement as a starting ...

Recent Advances in Collective Behaviors of Micro/Nanomotor Swarms

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review describes the driving forces behind collective motion, explores the self‐organization of micro/nano swarms across zero‐dimensional (0D), one‐dimensional (1D), two‐dimensional (2D), and three‐dimensional (3D) spaces, and highlights their potential in drug delivery, environmental monitoring, and smart devices.

Finite element for rotor/stator interactive forces in general engine dynamic simulation. Part 1: Development of bearing damper element [PDF]

open access: yes
A general purpose squeeze-film damper interactive force element was developed, coded into a software package (module) and debugged. This software package was applied to nonliner dynamic analyses of some simple rotor systems.

Stiff to Soft: A Protein‐Based Buffer Layer for Improving the Long‐Term Performance of Microneedle Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance stability and long‐term biocompatibility of wearable microneedle sensors, a crosslinking‐recombination bovine serum albumin material is used as a buffer layer coated on microneedle sensors. This coating layer possesses a unique stiff‐to‐soft transition function balancing the mechanical stiffness desired for puncturing and soft required for ...

An observation on tone cut-off in static test data from jet engine fans [PDF]

open access: yes
The far-field acoustic data for eight full-scale fans tested at a NASA-Lewis outdoor facility were analyzed for the effect of a cut-off design feature where the number of rotor and stator blades are proportioned so that the blade-passage tone will not ...
