The Effects of Rotor-Rotor and Rotor-Wing Interactions on eVTOL Aeroacoustics
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 79th Annual Forum, 2023This study examines the effect of aerodynamic interactions on a two-rotor pair in cruise, and a propeller acting in the presence of a wing. The two-rotor system with a forward and an aft rotor in-line is considered at different disk loadings (6, 8, 12 lb/ft² for a fixed cruise speed and different cruise speeds (20, 40, 60 knots) for a fixed ...

Helicopter Main-Rotor/Tail-Rotor Interaction
Journal of the American Helicopter Society, 2000Preliminary results from a study to model the interaction aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of the main and tail rotor of a helicopter in subsonic flow are presented. The configurations studied are: 1) two bladed main and tail rotors in hover, and 2) a four-bladed main rotor and two-bladed tail rotor in climbing flight.

Rotor-on-Rotor Aeroacoustic Interactions of Multirotor in Hover
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 76th Annual Forum, 2020Multirotor configurations introduce complicated aerodynamic and aeroacoustic interactions that must be considered during aircraft design. In this paper we explore two numerical methods to model the acoustic noise caused by aerodynamic rotor-on-rotor interactions of rotors in hover.

A Parametric Investigation of Rotor-Rotor Interaction Noise Generation
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 79th Annual Forum, 2023An extensive parametric study of a two rotor system configurations is conducted to investigate the effect of rotor placement on noise generation, with the aim of providing preliminary design information to multirotor aircraft designers. A computationally efficient wake method called OpenCOPTER is used to conduct the aerodynamic simulations and ...

Impact of Rotor-Rotor and Rotor-Body Aerodynamic Interactions on Quadrotor Vehicle Performance
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 79th Annual Forum, 2023Rotor-rotor and rotor-body interactions can have a first-order impact on multirotor vehicle performance. Identification of these performance impacts has previously been limited to numerical analysis and controlled environment testing, and they are largely unknown for full-scale multirotor flight vehicles. To capture these interactional effects,

Aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of helicopter main-rotor/tail-rotor interaction
5th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference and Exhibit, 1999Preliminary results from an ongoing effort to model the interaction aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of main- and tail rotor of a helicopter in subsonic flow are presented. The configurations studied are a) a two-blade main- and tail rotor in hover, and b) a four-blade main- and a two-blade tail rotor in climb flight.

Dynamics of a Pair of Interacting Rotors
Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1973As a preliminary investigation of coupled rotation relevant to plastic crystals, the dynamics of two rigid-molecule rotors with parallel fixed axes is studied for a cosine potential of interaction. The problem is separable in terms of the sum and difference of the molecular angular displacements, and is soluble exactly; both quantum-mechanical and ...

Abstract The use of a wing to unload the helicopter rotor is discussed for the cases with and without auxiliary propulsion. Data are presented from the flight test of five wing-rotor combinations showing the effects of the wing on the performance, stability and control, structural loads and maneuver characteristics of the machines.

Aerodynamic and acoustic investigations of rotor-rotor wake interaction
Proceedings of the International Symposium on the Application of Laser and Imaging Techniques to Fluid MechanicsThe paper presents part of the experimental activities carried out in the GARTEUR Action Group RC/AG-26 to study the acoustic and aerodynamic characteristics of small rotor configurations, including the influence of the rotor-rotor interactions. Two rotors, equipped with two-bladed propellers of a diameter of D=330.2 mm, were operated at two rotating ...

Rotor-to-Structure Interaction
2018We discussed that the rotor and the bearing support structure (called pedestals) can be modeled as two linear springs in series using the classical Jeffcott rotor in previous two chapters.
