Revising of the Near Ground Helicopter Hover: The Effect of Ground Boundary Layer Development

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The interaction of a helicopter rotor with the ground in hover flight is addressed numerically using a hybrid Eulerian–Lagrangian CFD model. When a helicopter takes off or lands, its wake interferes with the ground.

Investigation of the rotor–obstacle aerodynamic interaction in hovering flight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, a comprehensive experimental survey of the aerodynamic interaction of a hovering rotor in the proximity of a ground obstacle is described, taking advantage of multiple experimental techniques.

Effects of rotor–rotor interaction on the wake characteristics of twin rotors in axial descent

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2022
In this study, the effects of rotor–rotor interaction on wake characteristics were investigated experimentally for a twin-rotor configuration in axial descent. The wake velocities were measured at descent rates (descent speed/induced velocity at the rotor disk during hover) from 0.87 to 1.52, and the rotor–rotor interaction strength was controlled by ...

Upstream-radiated rotor–stator interaction noise in mean swirling flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A major component of the noise in modern aeroengines is rotor–stator interaction noise generated when the wake from the rotating fan impinges on a stator row downstream.

A comparison of coaxial and conventional rotor performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The performance of a coaxial rotor in hover, in steady forward flight, and in level, coordinated turns is contrasted with that of an equivalent, conventional rotor with the same overall solidity, number of blades, and blade aerodynamic properties.

Simulation of wind turbine wake interaction using the vorticity transport model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The aerodynamic interactions that can occur within a wind farm can result in the constituent turbines generating a lower power output than would be possible if each of the turbines were operated in isolation.

Mutations in the stator protein PomA affect switching of rotational direction in bacterial flagellar motor

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The flagellar motor rotates bi-directionally in counter-clockwise (CCW) and clockwise (CW) directions. The motor consists of a stator and a rotor. Recent structural studies have revealed that the stator is composed of a pentameric ring of A subunits and ...

Correlation research of rotor–stator interaction and shafting vibration in a mixed-flow pump

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2020
In order to study the shaft system vibration of mixed-flow pump under rotor–stator interaction, the unsteady pressure fluctuation characteristics are measured and the rotor axis orbit obtained based on the Bentley 408 data acquisition system.

Development and interaction of rotor wakes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018
The present work shows the results of a series of experimental investigations of the wake development behind a model rotor subject to upstream disturbances created either by another rotor or by a disk. The experiments are carried out in a water flume in order to control the flow and to carry out visualizations and to perform optical diagnostics.

Pitch-Regulated Control Strategy for Coaxial Drone with Variable Rotor Space Ratio

open access: yesDrones
This study investigates the impact of rotor spacing on the aerodynamic performance of a coaxialcopter and promotes an innovative regulated control strategy for the coaxial drone. The present research introduces a coaxialcopter with variable rotor spacing,
