Vision‐Assisted Avocado Harvesting with Aerial Bimanual Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work outlines the design and implementation of a bimanual aerial robot that employs visual perception and learning to detect, reach, and harvest avocados. A new gripper and fixer arm assembly is used to harvest avocados, while visual perception enables the detection of avocados and estimation of their position and orientation for determining ...

Optimal Over-Frequency Droop Control for DFIG-Based Wind Farms Under Unreliable Communication

open access: yesCSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems
Nowadays, high penetration of wind power is integrated into power grids, and WTs usually adopt the MPPT algorithm to maximize power output, which decouples the rotor speeds of wind turbines (WTs) and system frequency.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Motion Control Dynamics of Transport Vehicle on Long Descents

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов
The article provides a rationale for the need to develop an additional braking control system for a transport vehicle to limit the movement speed under the action of rolling forces and to protect the engine from exceeding the permissible speed ...

Thermal Behavior of a Magnetically Levitated Spindle for Fatigue Testing of Fiber Reinforced Plastic

open access: yesActuators, 2019
This article discusses the critical thermal behavior of a magnetically levitated spindle for fatigue testing of cylinders made of fiber reinforced plastic. These cylinders represent the outer-rotor of a kinetic energy storage.

TreeSpider: In‐Canopy Exploration With Tether‐Based Aerial Modular Arms

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A tethered drone with perching arms and a 360° ring enables unprecedented maneuverability within dense forest canopies. By dynamically adjusting tether length and decoupling pitch from the frame, it navigates between branches, senses multiple trees, and interacts physically with foliage.

Inertia Support Strategy for Wind Turbine Based on Switched Operating Points With Equivalent Time Constant

open access: yesIEEE Access
The wind Turbine adopts Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control to support grid frequency by releasing their energy reserve. However, the interaction between the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control and VSG control will weaken their inertia ...

Determining kinetic energy distribution of the working medium in a centrifugal disc finishing process—part 1: theoretical and numerical analysis with DEM method

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2019
The centrifugal disc finishing process is an abrasive technique of mass machining, and it is very effective but very frequently time consuming. In this paper, a simulation of the centrifugal disc finishing process was presented in order to estimate the ...
