Flow enhancement of a rough fracture [PDF]
We study experimentally and numerically the permeability of a rough fracture at laboratory scale when viscous forces are dominating (low Reynolds number). The experimental setup includes a granite fracture surface (10 × 10 cm²) opened in mode I. It allows a continuous opening of the fracture parallel to its mean plane.

Experimental study of the transport properties of rough self-affine fractures [PDF]
An experimental study of the transport properties of fluid-saturated joints composed of two complementary rough fracture surfaces, translated with respect to each other and brought in contact, is reported. Quantitative roughness measurements on different

Critical point network for drainage between rough surfaces [PDF]
In this paper, we present a network method for computing two-phase flows between two rough surfaces with significant contact areas. Low-capillary number drainage is investigated here since one-phase flows have been previously investigated in other ...

Averaged Reynolds Equation for Flows between Rough Surfaces in Sliding Motion [PDF]
The flow between rough surfaces in sliding motion with contacts between these surfaces, is analyzed through the volume averaging method. Assuming a Reynolds (lubrication) approximation at the roughness scale, an average flow model is obtained combining ...

A self-affine geometrical model of dynamic RT-PMMA fractures: implications for fracture energy measurements [PDF]
Profilometric imaging of fracture surfaces of rubber toughened polymer has been performed at two different resolutions (a) at large scales [10 μ\upmu m–25 mm] using an opto-mechanical profilometer and (b) at small scales [0.195 μ\upmu m–0.48 mm] using an

Effect of fracture roughness on permeability coefficient under uniaxial compression
The surface roughness of natural rock-fractures is an important factor affecting the fractured rock mass flow characteristics and further complicating the flow process in the natural fractures.

Dissolution of rock fractures is common in natural processes and engineering practices, in which gravity plays an important role. Visual observation technology is a key means to study the mechanism of dissolution in rough fractures.

The Effect of Fracture Roughness on the Onset of Nonlinear Flow [PDF]
AbstractIn fractures where surface fluctuations are large compared to their aperture (narrow fractures), the flow is forced to move in tortuous paths that produce additional viscous friction and are subject to inertia effects. We consider the relation between the magnitude of surface roughness and the onset of inertial effects in the pressure driving ...

Analysis of the influence of grouting on stress field of coal and rock mass with rough crack
In order to study the distribution law of the stress field in the rough fractures hiding in coal and rock mass during the grouting process, the two-dimensional rough fracture profile is generated according to the random midpoint displacement method, and
