Contributions to the Theory of Rough Sets
Fundamenta Informaticae, 1999We study properties of rough sets, that is, approximations to sets of records in a database or, more formally, to subsets of the universe of an information system. A rough set is a pair 〈L, U〉 such that L, U are definable in the information system and L ⊆ U. In the paper, we introduce a language, called the language of inclusion-exclusion, to describe

For further studying the theories and applications of rough sets (RS), this paper proposes a new theory on RS, which mainly includes topological space, topological properties, homeomorphism, and its properties on RS by some new definitions and theorems given.

A Rough Set Paradigm for Unifying Rough Set Theory and Fuzzy Set Theory [PDF]
In this plenary address, we would like to discuss rough inclusions defined in Rough Mereology, a joint idea with A. Skowron, as a basis for common models for rough as well as fuzzy set theories. We would like to justify the point of view that tolerance (or, similarity) is the leading motif common to both theories and in this area paths between the two ...

The Rough Sets Theory and Evidence Theory
Fundamenta Informaticae, 1990The aim of the paper is to show some connections between the rough sets theory and the Dempser-Shafer approach. We prove that for every Pawlak’s approximation space there exists a Dempster-Shafer space with the qualities of the lower and upper approximations of sets in the approximation space equal to the credibility and plausibility of sets in the ...

Extensions and intentions in the rough set theory
Information Sciences, 1998The paper presents some basic properties of approximation spaces being a generalization of the classical approximation spaces introduced by Zdzisław Pawlak in rough set theory. These approximation spaces have been also defined and investigated by some other authors.

A discretization method for rough sets theory
Intelligent Data Analysis, 2001Summary: The Rough Sets Theory, as a powerful knowledge-mining tool, has been widely applied to acquire knowledge in the medical, engineering and financial domains. However, this powerful tool cannot be applied to real-world classification tasks involving continuous features. This requires the utilization of discretization methods.

Implementing algorithms of rough set theory and fuzzy rough set theory in the R package “RoughSets”
Information Sciences, 2014Abstract The package RoughSets , written mainly in the R language, provides implementations of methods from the rough set theory (RST) and fuzzy rough set theory (FRST) for data modeling and analysis. It considers not only fundamental concepts (e.g., indiscernibility relations, lower/upper approximations, etc.), but also their applications in many ...

This chapter overviews rough set theory. First, we give preliminaries of rough set theory. Second, we give an exposition of algebras for rough set theory. Third, connections of modal logic and rough sets are described. Fourth, rough set logics are introduced. We also consider logics for reasoning about knowledge and logics for knowledge representation.
