Coupling Lagrangian simulation models and remote sensing to explore the environmental effect on larval growth rate: The Mediterranean case study of round sardinella (Sardinella aurita) early life stages

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
The relationship between environmental conditions and early life-history traits of Sardinella aurita are investigated using material collected in two sites of the Central Mediterranean Sea.

Discards of the purse seine fishery targeting small pelagic fish in the eastern Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2012
We analysed data collected on board commercial purse seine vessels in the Aegean and Ionian Seas (eastern Mediterranean Sea, Greece) in 13 seasonal sampling periods from 2003 to 2008 in order to describe the composition of the retained and discarded ...

Reproductive Biology of Round Sardinella (Sardinella Aurita) (Valenciennes, 1847) in Senegalese Coastal Waters

open access: yesJournal of Biology and Life Science, 2018
In this study, a total of 1068 specimens Sardinella aurita of which 553 females and 515 males were examined. The objectif of this study was to determine the reproductive parameters of Sardinella aurita. The sex ratio was significantly in favor of females (55%). The size at first sexual maturity was estimated at 18.9 cm for females and 18.0 cm for males.

Indigenous versus Lessepsian Hosts: Nervous Necrosis Virus (NNV) in Eastern Mediterranean Sea Fish

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Viruses are among the most abundant and diverse biological components in the marine environment. In finfish, viruses are key drivers of host diversity and population dynamics, and therefore, their effect on the marine environment is far-reaching.

Effects of Anadara granosa shell combined with Sardinella longiceps oil on oesteoblast proliferation in bone defect healing process

open access: yesDental Journal, 2016
Background: Alveolar bone damage is the most common case in dentistry. One way to fix the bone damage is by using bone graft. Anadara granosa shell is a potential bone substitute since it is rich in calcium which can be processed into hydroxyapatite. The

Fisheries management of round sardinella Sardinella aurita along North Sinai coast

open access: yesJournal of Coastal Life Medicine, 2016
Round sardinella [Sardinella aurita (S. aurita), Valenciennes[1]] is a species very common in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea coast as well along the African Atlantic coasts from West Sahara to Angola. In addition, this species occurs in the Black Sea and in Western Atlantic from Cap Cod to Argentina, but it is rare. Sardine is the first in its important

Grafting effectiveness of Anadara granosa shell combined with sardinella longiseps gel on the number of osteoblast-osteoclast cells

open access: yesDental Journal, 2017
Background: Bone grafts derived from Anadara granosa shells contain calcium carbonate that possesses bone-healing properties. The combination of Sardinella Longiceps fish oil, containing EPA and DHA, and Anadara granosa shells was assumed to regulate the

Biological aspects and population dynamics of the European pilchard Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) in the southeastern Mediterranean waters

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The European pilchard, Sardina pilchardus, is a key small pelagic fish sustaining Mediterranean ecosystems and fisheries. This study represents the first comprehensive biological and population dynamics assessment of the European pilchard by applying the length‐based spawning potential ratio (LB‐SPR) approach to S.
