ROBUSTNESS ANALYSIS OF INNOVATIVE CONNECTIONS FOR POST-AND-BEAM MASS TIMBER BUILDINGS

open access: yes
The design of structural robustness and the prevention of disproportionate collapses in mass timber buildings are becoming relevant considerations due to the increasing height of these buildings.

Validation of the Investigator's Global Assessment Scale for Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background There is a lack validated outcome measures to assess wound severity in epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS). Objectives To assess the reliability and validity of the Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA) scale and a newly developed palms/soles subscale through in‐clinic scoring and review of patient‐submitted photographs.

AVALIAÇÃO NUMÉRICA DO MÓDULO DE ELASTICIDADE EM VIGAS ROLIÇAS DE MADEIRA DA ESPÉCIE Pinus elliottii

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2016
This research aimed to present a numerical methodology of calculation, based on the Finite Element Method and the Least Squares Method, to determine de longitudinal modulus of elasticity in structural round timber beams, considering the irregularities in

Cutting through the noise: What can habitat selection modeling teach us about caribou‐fire space use dynamics?

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We synthesize the current knowledge regarding caribou habitat selection in relation to wildfires. Caribou responses to recent burns were generally weak and highly variable across subspecies or ecotypes, suggesting that post‐fire habitat selection is likely context‐dependent and the need for regionally adapted habitat management strategies.

Behaviour of round notched timber sections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Timber is widely used in the construction of bridges in Australia. An interesting feature is that girders used in these structures are often round in profile. Notching of the girders end is required for seating purposes and to create levelness in the top

Bayesian multi‐state mark‐resight modeling of survival and cause‐specific mortality from telemetered individuals: European fallow deer in Australia

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We illustrate how a Bayesian multi‐state mark‐resight (MSMR) modeling approach can be used to estimate survival and cause‐specific mortality probabilities of GPS‐collared European fallow deer in southeastern Australia. Our case study illustrates the flexibility of Bayesian MSMR models for incorporating imperfect detection probability (arising from ...

Identifying forest features that increase resiliency of southern‐boundary snowshoe hare populations in Pennsylvania

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Snowshoe hare population densities in Pennsylvania were greatest in early‐successional forest and densely‐understoried mature forest. Forest management that increases and maintains the amount of early‐successional forest, or that increases understory complexity in mature forest, would benefit snowshoe hares and may mitigate population declines under ...

From Ashes to Action: Economic Growth, Ecological Footprint, and Forest Fire Resilience in Advanced and Emerging Economies

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Forest fires have escalated alarmingly, now consuming more than double the tree cover compared to two decades ago, signaling a growing and urgent environmental crisis. This study addresses the ever increasing global concern of forest fires, focusing on sustainable economic recovery while minimizing the ecological footprint amid mounting ...
