Seasonal Habitat Selection by a Threatened Ungulate in an Industrializing Boreal Landscape

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Understanding habitat selection by Threatened wood bison in landscapes characterized by anthropogenic disturbance is important for conservation planning. During summer and winter, bison selected for linear (e.g., roads, seismic lines, pipelines) and polygonal (e.g., well sites) disturbances, unless there were high densities of linear features.

Sanitation felling against the European spruce bark beetle: A matter of intensity and forest type Tagli fitosanitari contro il bostrico tipografo: una questione di intensità e tipologia forestale

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We assess the effect of sanitation felling performed in 2022 in North‐Eastern Italy on bark beetle damage that occurred in 2023 across eight spruce forest types, as evaluated using multispectral satellite imagery. Bark beetle damage was reduced only at very high or very low sanitation felling rates.

Dealing With Inbuilt Age: A Bayesian Approach to Radiocarbon Dating of Rice, Bamboo and Charcoal From Non Ban Jak, Thailand

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT New radiocarbon determinations from rice grains and bamboo have been obtained from Non Ban Jak, Northeast Thailand. These, along with charcoal, date a late Iron Age building sequence. The results come from short‐lived species and charcoal with potential inbuilt age. We built a series of Bayesian models to obtain a reliable chronology.

Load-Carrying Capacity of Double-Shear Bolted Connections with Slotted-In Steel Plates in Squared and Round Timber Based on the Experimental Testing, European Yield Model, and Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics

open access: yesMaterials, 2022
Nowadays, the use of timber as a building material is gaining more prominence. When designing timber structures, it is necessary to pay increased attention to the design of their connections.

PROMISING TECHNOLOGIES FOR IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY OF GROUP ACCOUNTING OF ROUND TIMBER

Proceedings of the All-Russian scientific and technical conference "Environmental and resource-saving technologies in science and technology", 2022
Methods of accounting for round timber are traditionally divided into group and piece-by-piece. Piece-by-piece methods are usually more accurate, but also more costly to use.
