Since the IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Area Networks (6LoWPAN) standard does not define routing protocols, several approaches have been made to reuse and adapt existing MANET protocols. Extensive current research and development is conducted at the ROLL working group.

Application-aware routing protocol
Proceedings Second IEEE Symposium on Computer and Communications, 2002Increasingly, there is a need for context-aware networking. For example, in multimedia networks with heterogeneous end equipment, if two or more communicating nodes do not have the same application-layer interface, the network should be aware of the "context" of the communication in order to select an appropriate converter through which to route ...

On-demand multicast routing protocol
WCNC. 1999 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (Cat. No.99TH8466), 2003This paper presents a novel multicast routing protocol for mobile ad hoc wireless networks. The protocol, termed ODMRP (on-demand multicast routing protocol), is a mesh-based, rather than a conventional tree-based multicast scheme and uses a forwarding group concept (only a subset of nodes forwards the multicast packets via scoped flooding). It applies

On the Internet routing protocol Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol: is it optimal?
International Transactions in Operational Research, 2006Summary: Cisco's proprietary routing protocol, EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) is one of the two most widely employed routing protocols in the Internet. The underlying algorithm is reputed to be optimal with respect to the EIGRP metric. We construct a counterexample to illustrate that it is not optimal.

Overview and Classification of IP Routing Protocols — IP Routing
2004This chapter covers the basis of routing technologies and protocols for IP networks. After a review on routing design issues, a classification of routing protocols is presented, with details and comparative assessments. A case study is presented that addresses the routing technologies and design criteria for a global IP network for a large-size company.

An intelligent routing protocol in VANET
International Journal of Ad Hoc and Ubiquitous Computing, 2018Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) is one of the new promising and most challenging research area in the mobile computing field; this technology suffers from the high mobility which results in broken links and continuously changing routs. In this research, a new and Intelligent Routing Protocol (IRP) using position based proactive message transmission ...
