Roux‐en‐Y Reconstruction After Esophagectomy for Postoperative Functional Complaints: A Case Series

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Functional complaints affect half of esophagectomy patients, with no standard treatment. In nine patients, Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction for obstruction, redundant conduit, and weight loss was safely performed, with one major complication and no Grade 4 out of five events. Complete symptom resolution reached 67% at 3 months and 89% at 1 year.

Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists and muscle strength changes in older adults: Risks beyond muscle mass reductions

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP)/Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonists are increasingly prescribed for the management of obesity and type 2 diabetes, yet research pertinent to their effects on muscle health is limited. Considering the central role of muscle strength as a sarcopenia component, this article summarizes emerging ...

Changes in gastrointestinal motility and gut hormone secretion after Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy for individuals with severe obesity

open access: yesClinical Obesity, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Background Bariatric surgery is very effective in long‐term weight management. The present study was undertaken to investigate the short‐term effects of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and of Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on (a) gastrointestinal (GI) motility, that is gastric emptying and oro‐cecal transit time and (b) secretion of regulatory gut ...

GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists Post‐Bariatric Surgery (GRABS) Trial: Rationale, Design and Baseline Characteristics

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims No studies have investigated the synergistic effectiveness of Glucagon‐Like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists (GLP1RAs) in patients with persistent obesity following bariatric surgery. The GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists Post‐Bariatric Surgery (GRABS) Trial aims to investigate the effectiveness of tirzepatide (TRZ) versus standard of care (SOC) after ...
