The effect of row orientation, date and latitude on light absorption by row crops
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1980SUMMARYA model study of light absorption by rectangular hedgerows with different row orientations was made. The effect of row orientation on daily light absorption is greatest around 25° latitude. North–south orientation gives highest absorption for most of the year near the equator.

Model for Estimating Evaporation and Transpiration from Row Crops
Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2001Accurate estimates of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), that quantify the total water used by a crop, are needed to optimize irrigation scheduling for horticultural crops and to minimize water degradation. During early growth, accurate assessments of ETc are difficult in vegetable crops because of high soil evaporation due to frequent irrigation.

Microwave Emission from Row Crops
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1986In order to examine the emission properties of vegetation without taking into consideration the effects of variations in the soil background, strips of metal screening were used to cover the soil surface between adjacent rows of plants. Temporal measurements were made at 2.7 and 5.1 GHz for soybean, wheat, and corn canopies. Several special experiments

Milkweed as a New Cultivated Row Crop
Journal of Production Agriculture, 1992Fifty milkweed ecotypes collected from 10 states, including showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa Torr.), common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca L.), and Kansas‐derived hybrids of these two sympatric species were field tested as a new row crop. Interest initiated from the recent use of the harvested floss, produced as tufts of hollow cellulose seed hairs ...

Mechatronic System for Mechanical Weed Control of the Intra-row Area in Row Crops
KI - Künstliche Intelligenz, 2013The dissertation discusses the problem of mechanical weed control within the intra-row area in row crops. A novel concept featuring an electrically driven weeding tool similar to that applied in rotational crop thinning systems is proposed. The special characteristics of the system include the ability to tune rotational speed of the hoeing tool ...

Defining the Role of Biologicals for Crop Protection in Row Crops
Outlooks on Pest ManagementBiologicals are one of the fastest growing segments in agriculture. However, in the U.S. market, it’s starting to become a misunderstood buzzword. At their core, biologicals are innovative solutions that can help growers overcome some of the most pressing agronomic challenges they face today and in the future. While biologicals aren’t new to U.S.

Reflectance relations in row crop scenes
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1992Abstract Models that relate composite reflectance to its components are useful for inferring crop growth information from measured scene reflectance. Radiation measurements in Thematic Mapper bands (TM1, TM2, TM3, and TM4) were made from cotton, soybean, sunflower and grain sorghum at three stages of growth and used to evaluate three reflectance models.
