Integrating fossil data in ecological niche models to improve predictions of future habitat of Caribbean corals

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecological niche models (ENMs) are used to assess the abiotic preferences of species by linking their occurrences to the environmental conditions in which they live. We developed a fossil‐informed ENM framework that integrates mid‐Holocene and modern occurrences to test niche stability and reconstruct abiotic niche characteristics for four ...

A Universal RPC Toolkit

open access: yes, 2007
Many new RPC systems have been built in the past to meet different application requirements. However, much development effort has been spent on redoing significant parts of the RPC system. This paper describes a toolkit (the URPC toolkit) for prototyping

Dynamic Reaction and Damage Evaluation of Reactive Powder Concrete Strengthened Reinforced Concrete Columns Subjected to Explosive Load

open access: yesBuildings
China has an existing building area of 80 billion square meters, where reinforced concrete structures have a large quantity and a wide surface area. The risk of structures being subjected to blast loading is relatively high.

Genetic and Environmental Effects on BMI Fluctuation Across the Adult Life Course and Its Associations With Baseline BMI and BMI Change: An Individual‐Based Study of 14 Longitudinal Twin Cohorts

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Body mass index (BMI) fluctuation has adverse health consequences, yet its determinants remain poorly understood. We examined genetic and environmental influences on BMI fluctuation and its associations with BMI trajectories. Data and Methods Data from 14 longitudinal twin cohorts, including 58 311 individuals (54% women) and 22 ...

Detector physics of resistive plate chambers

open access: yes, 2002
Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) are gaseous parallel plate avalanche detectors that implement electrodes made from a material with a high volume resistivity between 10 high 7 and 10 high 12 omega cm.

Using annotated interface definitions to optimize RPC [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
journal articleIn RPC-based communication, it is useful to distinguish the RPC interface, which is the "network contract" between the client and the server, from the presentation, which is the "programmer\u27s contract" between the RPC stubs and the code

Targeted, receptor‐mediated delivery of a masked d‐amino acid cell‐penetrating peptide for cell‐specific phototoxicity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
A targeted phototoxic peptide selectively accumulates in cells expressing chemokine‐like receptor 1 (CMKLR1). Phototoxicity of the native peptide is low, but cleavage by lysosomal protease cathepsin B releases a 6‐tetramethylrhodamine (TMR) labeled nona‐ᴅ‐arginine which mediates lysosomal rupture and cell death upon irradiation.

RPC Link Box Control System for RPC Detector in LHC

open access: yes, 2008
This paper describes the RPC Link Box Control System (RLBCS) developed for the RPC muon trigger 1 in the CMS experiment on LHC collider under construction in CERN (Geneva). RLBCS subsystem is responsible for relatively slow, bidirectional communication

Ocular Manifestations of Infectious Salmon Anaemia Virus Infection in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Eyes are essential sensory organs needed by teleost Atlantic salmon for high visual acuity and survival in both the wild and in aquaculture settings. In this work, we assessed the ocular manifestations of Infectious Salmon Anaemia Virus (ISAV) infection in Atlantic salmon by a cohabitation‐mediated infection assay and histological and ...
