RR Lyrae Variable Stars in the Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy Leo I [PDF]
We report the discovery of a significant population of RR Lyrae variable stars in the dwarf spheroidal galaxy Leo I. Based on 40 V and 22 B images of the galaxy taken using the ESO Wide-Field Imager, we have so far identified 74 candidate RR Lyrae stars ...

TOWARD A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE DISTANCE SCALE FROM RR LYRAE VARIABLE STARS: A CASE STUDY FOR THE INNER HALO GLOBULAR CLUSTER NGC 6723 [PDF]
We present BV photometry for 54 variables in the metal-rich inner halo globular cluster NGC 6723. With the discovery of new RR Lyrae variables (RRLs), we obtain 〈Pab〉 = 0.541 ± 0.066 and 〈Pc〉 = 0.292 ± 0.030 day, n(c)/n(ab+c) = 0.167, and 〈V(RR)〉int = 15.

We present new empirical infrared period–luminosity–metallicity (PLZ) and period–Wesenheit–metallicity (PWZ) relations for RR Lyae based on the latest Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) parallaxes.

PLATO as it is: A legacy mission for Galactic archaeology
Deciphering the assembly history of the Milky Way is a formidable task, which becomes possible only if one can produce high‐resolution chrono‐chemo‐kinematical maps of the Galaxy. Data from large‐scale astrometric and spectroscopic surveys will soon provide us with a well‐defined view of the current chemo‐kinematical structure of the Milky Way, but it ...

Little Bear’s pulsating stars: Variable star census of UMi dSph Galaxy
Recent observations and a photometric search for variable stars in the Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidal galaxy (UMi dSph) are presented. Our observations were taken at Apache Point Observatory in 2014 and 2016 using the 0.5m ARCSAT telescope and the West ...

CCD SDSS gr Photometry of Poorly Studied Star Clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present for the first time CCD SDSS gr photometry, obtained at the Gemini South telescope with the GMOS attached, of stars in the field of the poorly studied star clusters NGC1768, HS 85, SL 676, NGC2107, NGC2190, and SL 866, which are distributed in the main body of the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Study of the Blazhko Type RRc stars in the Stripe 82 Region Using SDSS and ZTF
RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) are pulsating stars, many of which also show a long-term variation called the Blazhko effect which is a modulation of amplitude and phase of the lightcurve.

Implications and Applications of Kinematic Galaxy Scaling Relations
Galaxy scaling relations, which describe a connection between ostensibly unrelated physical characteristics, testify to an underlying order in galaxy formation that requires understanding. I review the development of a scaling relation that (1) unites the well‐known fundamental plane (FP) relation of giant elliptical galaxies and Tully‐Fisher (TF ...

We have initiated a large survey with K2 to observe thousands of RR Lyrae stars along the Ecliptic. The high photometric precision and the 80-90-day continuous coverage will allow us to investigate the light variation of these galactic structure tracer ...
