High modulation bandwidth of multisection RSOA

Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010), 2010
The high modulation bandwidth of two-section RSOA (>10 GHz) appears as a result of combination with O/O frequency response of DC-biased SOA and E/O frequency response of RSOA injected with small-signal modulation.

Design Issues in RSOA-based WDM PON

2008 IEEE PhotonicsGlobal@Singapore, 2008
We review some issues critical for the design of the wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) implemented by using reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs), including the uncooled operation of RSOAs, the remodulation noise, the reflectionn of SOAs,and the limited modulation bandwidth of RSOAs.

Enhancement of power budget in RSOA based loop-back type WDM-PON by using the cascaded RSOAs

2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2010
In the RSOA based remodulation WDM-PON link, the quality of the upstream performance largely depends on the downstream, such as downstream ER and the received optical power, which directly connected to the link power budget. By cascading RSOAs in the ONU, aforementioned link design constraints were alleviated; the link power budget can be increased by ...

All-optical wavelength conversion in GC-RSOA

ICTC 2011, 2011
We propose a new all-optical wavelength conversion technique based on cross gain modulation (XGM) in gain clamped reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (GC-RSOA). The proposed technique uses the seed light reflected from the FBG as probe signal, thereby avoiding the need of an external seed source for wavelength conversion.

Analysis of nonlinear effects in RSOA-based OFDM-PON

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
In this paper, a numerical investigation on the nonlinear distortion of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexed) signals caused by RSOA (Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier) as an intensity modulator in OFDM-PON system is undertaken. Based on curve fitting approach a fourth order polynomial is, for the first time, used to present the ...

Recent progresses in RSOA-based WDM PON

2009 11th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2009
We report on the recent progresses in the wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) based on the reflective semiconductor amplifiers (RSOAs), including the enhanced operable temperature range, effects of reflection and its mitigation methods, 10 Gb/s operation by using electronic equalizers and forward error-correction (FEC ...

Reflection tolerance of RSOA-based WDM PON

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We investigate the effects of back-reflection in RSOA-based WDM PON utilizing the remodulation technique. The downstream signal is likely to have severe reflection tolerance (-42 ~ -35 dB), which highly depends on the RSOA gain.

RSOA-based colorless multilevel transmitter with electrical signal predistortion

Optics Communications, 2020
Abstract In this paper we present the design and a numerical proof-of-concept of an RSOA-based colorless multilevel transmitter, suitable for use in optical network units at user premises. Simple electrical predistortion of the M-QAM modulation signal theoretically allows the transmitter to be operated at up to 4 GBd symbol rate with 16-QAM ...

RoF using optically equalized RSOA WDM-PON architecture

2014 16th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2014
In this paper Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (RSOA) based Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) architecture is enhanced to carry radio frequency (RF) signals using an optical offset filtering technique in order to overcome the RF bandwidth limitation of the architecture.
