Analysis of optical re-modulation by multistage modeling of RSOA

Optik, 2014
Abstract The time-resolved multistage reservoir model well-known for semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is extended to analyze the behavior of a bulk homogeneous InP-InGaAsP buried heterostructure reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). Parameters for simulation have been extracted from the experimental RSOA characteristics.

Analysis of reflection noise in RSOA based WDM PON

2009 2nd IEEE International Conference on Broadband Network & Multimedia Technology, 2009
In reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) based wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) system, reflection noise is a major factor impact on system performance. In this paper, a model experimental system is set up, in order to analyze various types of reflection noise in WDM-PON system, especially focus on the ...

Silicon Photonics External Cavity Laser with Misalignment Tolerant Multi-mode RSOA to PIC Interface

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2019
We present an external cavity laser with a silicon photonics PIC coupled to an RSOA with a multimode grating coupler. Also acting as a 3-dB splitter inside a Sagnac loop, it relaxes alignment tolerances.

Evaluating RSOA Performance with Optical Logic Gates at 100 Gbps Data Rate

Journal of optical communications, 2018
All optical logic gates are the key elements of contemporary optical computing unit. For that non-linear attribute of reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is exploited to configure optical logic gates.

Radio over RSOA-based WDM-PON

2011 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2011 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference, 2011
Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) have recently received a lot of attention as cost-effective upstream optical transmitters for wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical networks. However, the modulation bandwidth of this semiconductor device is limited to ∼1.5 GHz and the device is largely used to accommodate <2.5-Gbps ...

Dither-Frequency Tuning Technique for RSOA-Based Coherent WDM PON

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2019
Increasing the transmission distance is an attractive technological option for lowering the cost of loopback-configured coherent wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical networks implemented by using reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers ...

Wavelength-dependent characteristics of RSOA for color-free operations

Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010), 2010
We investigated the wavelength-dependent operating characteristics of RSOA with external injection for color-free operation over entire wavelength range of C-band or L-band, which can be widely applicable for RSOA-based WDM-PONs.

RSOA-based optical network units for WDM-PON

2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006
Designs of low cost ONU for WDM-PON are presented and evaluated. Reflective-SOAs are proposed to be used as core of the ONU in a bidirectional single-fiber single-wavelength topology. FEC is employed to mitigate crosstalk effects.

Enhancement of RSOA direct modulation bandwidth with optimized optical filter

2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015
In-line and reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers can be effectively utilized as external modulators because they can perform simultaneously amplification and modulation. The reflective device (RSOA- Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier) is more practical in optical distribution network.
