Conservation beyond boundaries: using animal movement networks in protected area assessment

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 26, Issue 6, Page 753-765, December 2023., 2023
Connectivity between sites can mediate the spatial extent and severity of environmental impacts such as disturbance. In this study, we apply network analysis to a long‐term capture–mark–recapture dataset to evaluate connectivity of the Black‐tailed Godwit population of the Tagus estuary, Portugal, and how it may be altered by a proposed airport ...

Onde o físico encontra o humano: proposição de um programa de pesquisa multidimensional para uma geografia da música baseada em ruído

open access: yesPunto Sur, 2021

Drone‐induced flight initiation distances for shorebirds in mixed‐species flocks

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 9, Page 1816-1827, September 2023., 2023
We conclude that (i) drone use needs to be carefully regulated to ensure roosting shorebird flocks are not approached within distances that will disturb the most sensitive species likely to be present, (ii) researchers contemplating drone surveys need to carefully evaluate the risk of disturbance, especially where there are mixed‐species flocks, and ...

Disputes between neighbors in Mexican cities during the COVID‐19 pandemic

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 3, Page 626-643, April 2023., 2023
Abstract We estimate the effect of the COVID‐19 pandemic lockdown on disputes between neighbors using a panel of 70 cities from across Mexico and a difference‐in‐difference strategy. Our results show that the lockdown exacerbated disputes related to pets as nuisances by 45%, noise by 31%, unruly children by 23%, and garbage by 22%.

Modelling ecological communities when composition is manipulated experimentally

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 2, Page 696-707, February 2023., 2023
Abstract In an experimental setting, the composition of ecological communities can be manipulated directly. Starting from a pool of n species, it is possible to co‐culture species in different combinations, ranging from monocultures, to pairs, and all the way up to the full species pool.

Long transient response of vegetation dynamics after four millennia of anthropogenic impacts in an island ecosystem

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 28, Issue 21, Page 6318-6332, November 2022., 2022
In the Mediterranean region, island ecosystem dynamics have been influenced by millennia of anthropogenic impacts. Here, we analysed the spatio‐temporal dynamics of vegetation in sa Dragonera, where herbivory by goats, over‐logging and rat occurrence ended in the last decades.
