Laminated Rubber Bearing for Seismic Isolation

open access: yesKobunshi, 2008
Seismic isolation system has absorbed much attention for a building construction method against earthquake road or buildings and badges. Laminated rubber bearing is an essential device of the seismic isolation system, which has a multi-layer ed structure composing of thin rubber sheets and steel plates.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Development of Heat Engines Powered by Twisted and Coiled Polymer Fiber Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Continuously rotating engines driven by thermally responsive actuating materials can turn waste heat into useful energy. For the first time heat engines operated by twisted and coiled polymer fiber actuators are demonstrated with engine design guided by two simple analytical models.

Natural rubber/nitrile butadiene rubber/hindered phenol composites with high-damping properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart and Nano Materials, 2015
New natural rubber (NR)/nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/hindered phenol (AO-80) composites with high-damping properties were prepared in this study. The morphological, structural, and mechanical properties were characterized by atomic force microscopy ...

Adhesive Double‐Network Granular Organogel E‐Skin

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a double‐network granular organogel adhesive for electronic skin, overcoming adhesion and strength trade‐offs. It provides reversible, robust bonding and ionic conductivity, enabling wearable and soft robotic e‐skin. Thanks to the e‐skin adhesive, a soft robotic trunk can recognize touch, temperature, humidity, and acidity.

Commodities in a global vision for agriculture towards 2010 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
It is impossible to see a hundred years into the future. So, how can we imagine what will become of commodity crops in Malaysia by 2100? Yet, worldwide, these commodity crops provide a living for hundreds of millions of people: how they evolve will have ...

Dynamic behavior of high damping rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings under near-fault earthquakes

open access: yesResearch on Engineering Structures and Materials
Civil engineering structures are susceptible to natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, and strong winds. Base isolation is a proven method for protecting structures during earthquakes. It involves inserting a flexible layer between the foundation and superstructure to isolate the structure from earthquakes, thereby changing the system's ...

RUBBER BEARINGS FOR DOWN-HOLE PUMPS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Synopsis of project activity: 1998--Awarded cost share grant from DOE. 1st Qtr 1999--Developed fail safe lubricating system. 2nd Qtr 1999--Performed first large scale test with nitrile based bearings. It failed due to material swelling. Failure was blamed on improper tolerance.
