Tracing Hailstone Development: Isotopic Evidence and Microphysical Variability in Texas Supercell Events

Abstract Two supercell thunderstorms that occurred in Del Rio and Burkburnett, Texas in the spring of 2020 produced greater than 5 cm diameter hailstones. When life gives you limonene… Hydrothermal conversion and pyrolysis of limonene give two distinct sets of products, arising from differing reaction cascades. While p‐cymene dominates in the presence of water, indicative of an isomerisation/aromatisation pathway, pyrolysis favours cracking and loss of carbon affording an m‐xylene rich aromatic mix.
