Ruby Laser as a Microsurgical Instrument

Morphological changes at the cell level have been produced experimentally by a pulsed ruby laser (optical maser). A pulse duration of approximately 500 microseconds caused discrete damage to structures in the cell without irreversible damage to the surrounding area.

Transscleral Ruby Laser Cyclocoagulation

During a ten-year period, we treated 241 eyes by transscleral ruby laser cyclocoagulation. Each eye had a minimum follow-up of six months. The average was 24 months and the range was six to 92 months. Using a criterion for success of intraocular pressure between 5 and 22 mm Hg, we achieved an overall success rate of 62% (150 of 241 eyes).

Breakdown of deuterium with a ruby laser

Solving the quantum-kinetic equation for electrons interacting with deuterium molecules and a 1.8-eV photon field, we have made time-dependent calculations of the breakdown of deuterium gas by a ruby laser. Joulemeter for pulsed ruby laser

This article presents a joulemeter that permits us to measure the beam energy of a pulsed ruby laser from the HLS-3 holographic system at the recording photosensitive surface of the holographic plate. This is an inexpensive alternative to commercially obtainable energy measuring silicon detectors.

Ruby laser with an active feedback

An investigation was made of the characteristics of the radiation emitted by a ruby laser with an active positive or negative feedback. Under negative feedback conditions the emission was in the form of smooth pulses modulated by not more than 10% (rms deviation not exceeding 5%) and with an instantaneous width of the spectrum of 0.0008 nm.

On the Efficiency of Ruby Laser Pumping

The paper deals with the efficiency considerations of optical pumping in ruby laser in general and that of ruby rod in particular. The absorption of the incident light in ruby depends upon the path length and the frequency of incident light. Based on both these aspects, the efficiency has been calculated for different cross-sections of the rod.
