Modification of solar radiation model over rugged terrain
The formula for the duration of possible sunshine has been modified. Two geometrical factors, the circumsolar view factor and the isotropic view factor for calculating solar radiation, have been proposed. The ray-tracing method in computer cartography has been applied to simulating the obstruction of terrain over solar radiation. In addition, the shape

The estimation of errors in calculated terrain corrections in the Tatra Mountains
In general, calculation of terrain corrections can be a substantial source of errors in evaluating Bouguer anomalies, especially in rugged mountainous areas like the Tatra Mountains where we also get the largest values of the terrain corrections as such.

The Evolution of Autonomous Systems for Planetary Cave Exploration: A Review
ABSTRACT The exploration of Subsurface Access Points (SAPs), such as lava tubes on the Moon and Mars, has gained significant interest due to their potential as stable environments shielded from surface radiation and temperature extremes. These sites are considered high‐value targets for detecting water and signs of ancient life, and assessing their ...

Motion planning of a robotic arm on a wheeled vehicle on a rugged terrain [PDF]
This paper presents a set of motion planners for an exploration vehicle on a simulated rugged terrain. The vehicle has four wheels for its movement and a robotic arm mounted on the vehicle for object manipulation.

Revealing functional responses in habitat selection of rocky features and rugged terrain by Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) using LiDAR data [PDF]
Context Many carnivores are attracted to rugged terrain, rocky areas, and conspicuous relief features. However, most of the previous research is limited to general topographical habitat characteristics and rarely consider the effects of microhabitat ...

Brazil's Cerrado valley wetlands—swamp savanna and gallery forest—are highly important for the biome's water cycle and carbon storage and are susceptible to degradation from the impacts of land use expansion and the climate crisis. In support of their detailed monitoring and assessment, we developed and tested a transferable mapping approach that ...

Climate change is projected to intensify soil erosion in the Chalakkudy River Basin, with bare lands and steep uplands emerging as the most vulnerable hotspots under high‐emission scenarios. Forested areas showed greater resistance to soil erosion, highlighting the importance of targeted soil conservation for sustainable watershed management in ...

ABSTRACT The dynamic nature of small islands being geographically isolated and their perceived connectedness with global networks complicates research attempts to draw general conclusions on whether insularity leads to marginalization or strengthens their resilience for sustainable development.
