Plasticity of the cis-regulatory input function of a gene. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2006
The transcription rate of a gene is often controlled by several regulators that bind specific sites in the gene's cis-regulatory region. The combined effect of these regulators is described by a cis-regulatory input function.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

A Lognormal Model for Insurance Claims Data

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2006
In the insurance area, especially based on observations of the number of claims, N(w), corresponding to an exposure w, and on observations of the total amount of claims incurred, Y (w), the risk theory arises to quantify risks and to fit models of ...

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

On a Bivariate Poisson Negative Binomial Risk Process

open access: yesBiomath, 2014
In this paper we define a bivariate counting process as a compound Poisson process with bivariate negative binomial compounding distribution. We investigate some of its basic properties, recursion formulas and probability mass function.

Optimal Expected Utility of Dividend Payments with Proportional Reinsurance under VaR Constraints and Stochastic Interest Rate

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2020
In this paper, we consider the problem of maximizing the expected discounted utility of dividend payments for an insurance company taking into account the time value of ruin. We assume the preference of the insurer is of the CRRA form.

High Healthcare Utilization Preceding Diagnosis with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Though early diagnosis improves long‐term outcomes, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) patients often experience prolonged, circuitous paths to diagnosis. To inform diagnostic improvement, we sought to characterize healthcare utilization in the year preceding diagnosis.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Virginia Woolf’s Ruined House, a Literary Complex

open access: yesÉtudes Britanniques Contemporaines, 2012
Virginia Woolf’s central section in To the Lighthouse hinges upon the oxymoric nature of ruin, and ponders over disappearance. The family house is victim of a time that passes irremediably, yet remains and endures. In Woolf’s ‘elegy’, the Ramsays’ ruined
