Innovating Aircraft Repair Processes: The Role of Digitalization in Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research explores how digitalization—by storing detailed non‐destructive testing data in structured DICONDE databases and creating a standard data model of the component—innovates aviation maintenance and repair processes. Coupled with a developed state‐based simulation model, it enables data‐driven, sustainable repair strategies that reduce waste,

Asymptotic behavior of the Gerber–Shiu discounted penalty function in the Erlang(2) risk process with subexponential claims

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2011
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the Gerber–Shiu discounted penalty function ɸ(u) = E(e−δT 1{T

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

On a generalization of the expected discounted penalty function to include deficits at and beyond ruin [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Actuarial Journal, 2014
In this chapter we propose an extended concept of the expected discounted penalty function (EDPF) that takes into account new ruin-related random variables. We add to the EDPF, which was introduced in classical papers [Gerber and Shiu (1997), (1998) and Gerber and Landry (1998)], a sequence of expected discounted functions of new record minima reached ...

Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Beyond Repair? Ruins and Rubble in Ian McEwan’s Atonement

open access: yesÉtudes Britanniques Contemporaines, 2012
In his representation of England in the 1930s and of the Second World War, McEwan’s Atonement stages shattered worlds, both public and private, from derelict marriages and ruined relationships to the rubble of the Dunkirk retreat and the soldiers ...

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Intersections of two ruin probability functions

open access: yesMathematical communications, 2011
In this paper we study intersections of ruin probability functions for two risk models. The number of intersection points is determined for some of the most widely used models. It is also shown that there exist risk processes with ruin probability functions intersectiong in an arbitrary large number of points.
