Exponential bounds for the tail probability of the supremum of an inhomogeneous random walk

open access: yes, 2018
Let $\{\xi_1,\xi_2,\ldots\}$ be a sequence of independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables. In this paper, the sufficient conditions are found under which the tail probability $\mathbb{P}(\sup_{n\geqslant0}\sum_{i=1}^n\xi_i>x)$

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

On the Integro-Differential Equation Arising in the Ruin Problem for Non-Life Insurance Models with Investment

open access: yesMathematics
In the classical non-life insurance models, the capital reserve of an insurance company increases at a constant rate and decreases by downward jumps. We consider a generalization of this model by supposing that a fixed portion of the capital reserve is ...

On the Probability and Severity of Ruin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the usual model of the collective risk theory, we are interested in the severity of ruin, as well as its probability. As a quantitative measure, we propose G(u, y), the probability that for given initial surplus u ruin will occur and that the deficit ...

Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Risk Theory with the Gamma Process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aggregate claims process is modelled by a process with independent, stationary and nonnegative increments. Such a process is either compound Poisson or else a process with an infinite number of claims in each time interval, for example a gamma ...
