A mechanism for preseismic steady rupture fronts observed in laboratory experiments [PDF]
It has been shown that the onset of frictional instability is characterized by a transition from stable, quasi-static rupture growth to unstable, inertially-controlled high-speed rupture.

Abstract Frictional slip behavior in fault zones can be analyzed with friction laws using 1 or 2 state variables, but the physical meaning and applicability of the 2‐state variable form of the law remain unclear. Here, we re‐analyze friction experiments by Roesner et al. (2022, https://doi.org/10.1186/s40623‐022‐01728‐w) using a natural sample from the

Geodetic displacements and aftershocks following the 2001 M_w = 8.4 Peru earthquake: Implications for the mechanics of the earthquake cycle along subduction zones [PDF]
We analyzed aftershocks and postseismic deformation recorded by the continuous GPS station AREQ following the M_w = 8.4, 23 June 2001 Peru earthquake. This station moved by 50 cm trenchward, in a N235°E direction during the coseismic phase, and continued

Temperature Series for 19 Caves Across the Western Italian Alps
We present a validated temperature dataset from 19 caves in the Western Italian Alps (2012–2025), offering over 160,000 records. Designed for reuse, the data enable future studies on cave microclimates, thermal buffering, and climate sensitivity in subterranean ecosystems. ABSTRACT Caves represent challenging systems for monitoring temperature dynamics.

Impact-induced acceleration by obstacles
We explore a surprising phenomenon in which an obstruction accelerates, rather than decelerates, a moving flexible object. It has been claimed that the right kind of discrete chain falling onto a table falls \emph{faster} than a free-falling body.

Topological Complexity of Frictional Interfaces: Friction Networks [PDF]
Through research conducted in this study, a network approach to the correlation patterns of void spaces in rough fractures (crack type II) was developed. We characterized friction networks with several networks characteristics.

Abstract Detachment faults in mid‐ocean ridge settings accommodate tectonic extension. These faults are potentially weakened by alteration through phyllosilicate‐ and amphibole‐mineral formation. Seven core samples taken from the Krafla and Reykjanes geothermal fields in Iceland allow for the study of the effect of mineral alteration on the frictional ...
