Cardiac morphological and morphometric analysis of Ardea alba

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Ardea alba (Linnaeus, 1758) is a widely distributed heron species whose cardiovascular morphology remains poorly described. This study aimed to characterize the cardiac morphology and morphometry of adult A. alba. Ten specimens were analyzed using radiographic, morphometric, histological, scanning electron microscopy, and three‐dimensional ...

Strategies for Feeding Unweaned Dairy Beef Cattle to Improve Their Health

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
In order to answer the question of whether nutritional interventions may help to reduce the incidence of respiratory disease in dairy beef calves at arrival, the present review is divided in three sections.

Dietary Baicalin Supplementation Can Enhance the Growth Performance of Weaned Piglets and Maintain the Intestinal Barrier Integrity

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This research innovatively illustrates baicalin’s multifaceted mechanisms in enhancing piglets’ intestinal health: modulating bile acid metabolism via probiotics, reinforcing tight junction proteins (ZO‐1/claudin), suppressing TLR4/NF‐κB‐mediated inflammation, whereas promoting growth and reducing diarrhea.

Beta-catenin inhibits bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 replication via innate immunity pathway

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2020
Background Bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (BPIV3) is one of the important viral respiratory agents associated with the bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) in cattle.

Requirements of future grass-based ruminant production systems in Ireland

open access: yes, 2011
peer-reviewedThere is a renewed interest in grazing systems in many temperate and subtropical regions of the world. This results from lower inflation-adjusted prices, the proposed removal of some subsidies and tariffs, and rising labour, machinery and ...

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Effects of Lycium barbarum Residue Substituting Dietary Maize on Fecal Microbiota and Growth Performance of Crossbred Simmental Cattle

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The bioactive substances we extracted from Lycium barbarum residue (LBR) have a typical polysaccharide structure. When 1.80% LBR was used to replace maize in the diet, the average daily gain of rossbred Simmental was significantly increased, and anti‐inflammatory ability was improved. In addition, LBR improved the fecal microbial composition, increased

Mining key circRNA-associated-ceRNA networks for milk fat metabolism in cows with varying milk fat percentages

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Cow milk fat is an essential indicator for evaluating and measuring milk quality and cow performance. Growing research has identified the molecular functions of circular RNAs (circRNAs) necessary for mammary gland development and lactation in ...

A simple method for genomic selection of moderately sized dairy cattle populations

open access: yesAnimal, 2012
An efficient algorithm for genomic selection of moderately sized populations based on single nucleotide polymorphism chip technology is described. A total of 995 Israeli Holstein bulls with genetic evaluations based on daughter records were genotyped for

LncRSFD Alternative Splicing Modulates the Proliferation and Differentiation of Adipocytes Through Sponging miRNAs

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study identified a molecule named lncRSFD, which is highly expressed in sheep adipose tissues. The lncRSFD gene generates two distinct transcript variants via alternative splicing: lncRSFD‐L and lncRSFD‐S. Functionally, lncRSFD alternative splicing (lncRSFD‐L/S) promotes the proliferation, differentiation, and lipid metabolism of adipocytes ...
