Coarse Grained Parallel Selection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We analyze the running time of the Saukas-Song algorithm for selection on a coarse grained multicomputer without expressing the running time in terms of communication rounds. This shows that while in the best case the Saukas-Song algorithm runs in asymptotically optimal time, in general it does not.

The Effects of Physical Activity on Stress-induced Cardiac Fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: This study examined whether routine physical activity limits stress-induced tissue remodeling processes that lead to cardiac fibrosis. The study also explored whether the cardiac urocortin 2/corticotropin releasing factor receptor 2β pathway was

PID performance of the ALICE-TOF detector in Run 2 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In these proceedings we report on the status of the ALICE Time-Of-Flight (TOF) detector. The running performance of the Run 1 (2009-2013) and Run 2 (2015-present) data taking campaigns are compared. The Particle IDentification (PID) capabilities of the detector are presented and discussed in the light of the improved detector calibration that allowed ...

Narratives of and from a running-woman’s body: feminist phenomenological perspectives on running embodiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The female sporting body has been studied in myriad ways over the past 25-30 years, including via a range of feminist frameworks (Hall 1996; Markula 2003; Hargreaves 2007). Despite this developing corpus, studies of sport only rarely engage in depth with

Standard Running, "Physical Running", Cosmological Constant and Newton Coupling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Recently it is asserted that the standard beta function does not describe the correct running of the coupling constant in some theories. We show that the problem arises from the assumption $\mu=p$ ($\mu$ is a renormalization point) and that a suitable choice of $\mu$ gives the correct running.

Barefoot running improves economy at high intensities and peak treadmill velocity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aim: Barefoot running can improve running economy (RE) compared to shod running at low exercise intensities, but data is lacking for the higher intensities typical during many distance running competitions.
