The Relationship between Running Power and Running Economy in Well-Trained Distance Runners

open access: yesSports, 2018
A novel running wearable called the Stryd Summit footpod fastens to a runner’s shoe and estimates running power. The footpod separates power output into two components, Stryd power and form power.

EFFECTS OF A PROLONGED MAXIMAL RUN ON RUNNING ECONOMY AND RUNNING MECHANICS

open access: yesMedicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 1980
The purpose of this study was to document the effects of a prolonged (30 min) maximal run (PMR) on running economy (RE) and running mechanics in 16 male runners (mean VO2max = 59.0 +/- 4.5 ml.kg-1.min-1). After completing 60 min of treadmill accommodation, each subject performed two 10 min economy runs at 200 m.min-1.

Acute physiological, biomechanical, and perceptual responses of runners wearing downward-curved carbon fiber insoles

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
In a randomized controlled cross-over study ten male runners (26.7 ± 4.9 years; recent 5-km time: 18:37 ± 1:07 min:s) performed an incremental treadmill test (ITT) and a 3-km time trial (3-km TT) on a treadmill while wearing either carbon fiber insoles ...

Mechanical spring technology improves running economy in endurance runners [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In recent years there has been an increase in participation in timed running events. With this increase, the motivation for individuals to run their best has motivated the running shoe industry to make design changes to traditional running foot wear in ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Adding carbon fiber to shoe soles may not improve running economy: a muscle-level explanation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
In an attempt to improve their distance-running performance, many athletes race with carbon fiber plates embedded in their shoe soles. Accordingly, we sought to establish whether, and if so how, adding carbon fiber plates to shoes soles reduces athlete ...

SNUPN‐Related Muscular Dystrophy: Novel Phenotypic, Pathological and Functional Protein Insights

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SNUPN‐related muscular dystrophy or LGMDR29 is a new entity that covers from a congenital or childhood onset pure muscular dystrophy to more complex phenotypes combining neurodevelopmental features, cataracts, or spinocerebellar ataxia. So far, 12 different variants have been described.

Effect of Oral Supplementation with L-Carnitine on Performance Time in a 5000 m Race and Responses of Free Fatty Acid and Carnitine Concentrations in Trained-Endurance Athletes

open access: yesMontenegrin Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, 2021
This study was designed to determine the effect of oral supplementation with L-carnitine on the performance time in a 5000 m race. In addition, free fatty acid, blood carnitine, lactate, and glucose responses to the race following the supplementation ...

Plasma Proteomic Signatures for Alzheimer's Disease: Comparable Accuracy to ATN Biomarkers and Cross‐Platform Validation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background There is growing recognition of the potential of plasma proteomics for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) risk assessment and disease characterization. However, differences between proteomics platforms introduce uncertainties regarding cross‐platform applicability.
